If you have someone that founf the magical combination of tubes, 99% of the time in their madness they finally stumbled onto a good eq. Because it would be ridiculous to roll tubes and not adjust the eq each time. Some of them have tons of low end or are brighter by nature. You probably have some idea of the eq you like. You would be better off just working on getting your eq right without messing around with the ✨ magic secret tube combination

Yes, I understand 100%.
The thing is I already had one years ago with JJ´s in the preamp section and I was not a fan of the sound of those tubes, dark and muddy sounding. I finally sold it for various reasons.

One month ago I just got a 5150 Sig again. This one had some damaged preamp tubes so I´m considering trying something new. why not? haha
After reading a lot about user opinions the most recommended were Shuguangs 12AX7B´s with Tung Sol in V1 or Ruby 12AX7AC5 HG+ and that´s the main reason I´m asking advice here. Nothing further than that.

Don’t make it to scientific, just experiment. Get an idea on which sonic spectrum the different brands are, like JJ rather dark (not every one in their line) and Tung Sol on the bright side.
Start with changing V1 and than go further the signal pass down

Yes, I think first step would be trying some tubes on V1 and see which one I prefer. Because I was not a fan of JJ´s maybe I should try something brighter. Ruby 12AX7AC5 HG+ (V1) would be on the brighter side like a Tung Sol versus JJ´s, right?
V2 seems to be an important tube too on 5150, would you try something similar to V1 or it doesn´t matter?

And yeah, I think it´s time to experiment (after getting some tubes first haha). I have some NOS JAN 12AX7WA´s, I don´t know if they´ll work great in this amp but I could try them too on V2-V3-V5.

Tung Sols are bright. Chinese tubes are usually on the bright side too, but I didn’t try the ones from Psvane yet. Ruby relabels tubes and at some point they were chines tubes as well.

Look at how the signal path in the 6505 is for each channel through the preamp tubes. Changes further in the beginning of the path will be most prominent and exaggerated through subsequent amplification. So if you want to change the lead channel for example, you change the input stage V1 and then next would be the subsequent tube that is used for lead channel.

I usually don’t care about the tube that drives the loop to much. Last tube is the phase inverter. People tend to experiment with them as well, but I don’t
