shuguang 12AX7 plus SL2 = rock!!!!

It really depends on what you want. SL2 is Facelift. Dirt and Tripod are probably more EG5, but SL2 will still get in the ballpark. Both sound great. Its just what you prefer.

EG5 is more hifi, SL2 is more raw if that makes any sense. SL2 has more of that signature AiC grind and sag IMO. Def go with the chinese preamp tubes though. They are the best Ive heard in SL2.

I just got the Rubys from KCA NOS Tubes. Pretty sure they are selected from Shuguang factory. Dont know whether they are A or B though.

But in all seriousness, SL2 with chinese is probably as close as you will get to the core Cantrell tone since it was Marshall before and then Bogner Shiva after.

I'm pretty sure the Ruby's are 12ax7a's, and I know they come direct from the Shuguang factory.

He had a killer tone on Dirt. I'm planning on tracking w/ the SL2 / EG5 w/ my 2x12 w/ Warehouse 30's, and doing a third track on certain areas w/ the VX w/ the Warehouse Alnico blues for more clear (somewhat dirty) chimey tones to add to it, ala Dean Deleo and how he runs his rig live.

Joe it is worth noting that, like Eric, am using Warehouse v30's in a closed back 2x12 when I am getting these AIC type tones out of the SL2. Also I am using a Les Paul custom with an overwound 500T at the bridge. I agree with Eric the Chinese in the v1 does give a tighter palm muting tone. Thus why i dig them. For what it is worth... I am using the 12AX7B these are a newer version than the 12AX7A (or C9 as some sites call them). The 12AX7B supposedly is more crisp with a bit more gain then the 12AX7A but I have never has the "A" so I can not compare.

don't those warehouse 30's rock man!! i am getting a heritage 140 cm, and am putting a set of motor city pickups afwayu's in it, so I can wait to try that w/ the SL2.

The chinese tubes sound great in my eg5 and my SL2. I got the ones from the tubestore which are the 12ax7a's. where can i get the 12ax7b's, telefied?? I'd be curious to put them up next to the EH's and the 12ax7a's and do a review for you guys. Anyone have one they'd want to send me to do a review ...eheheh

Well I first ordered the 12AX7A from the Tubestore.com when I started this Thread and loved them. As did a buddy of mine who I gave them too after I ordered the B stock from an eBay dealer and i have two coming from http://www.boiaudioworks.com/index.php?cPath=21#Shuguang_12AX7B+Silver+Dragon this week. I will let you know if the eBay tubes sound or look any diff than the ones from bioaudioworks. I liked the the 12AX7B better in the SL2 and so thus why I gave my buddy the 12AX7A tubes. I wish I had 2 SL2 modules and both types of tubes for a true head to head A/B but oh well haha

Oh and yes the Warehopuse v30's smoke every other speaker I have tried with the MOD50 in a 2x12 setup for heavy rock tones.

Yeah that is pretty much the amp line up for Dirt. Most of the rhtyhm parts are quad tracked on each side (played the part 8 times total 4 tones and 4 performances per side). That is an insane wall o' guitars. I have a 5150 and a few Marshalls around and I can tell you the SL2 sounds more like Dirt than any of them do alone.

Here goes for more tube ordering . If you say the 12ax7b's are better, then I gotta try them . What are your guy's fav tubes in the VX and T/D? I'm running all Tung-sols in those at the moment. I really like them in both of those modules. Just curious if I can make them EVEN better .

Oh and I have the Erect and have never really bonded with it but i can tell you the 12AX7B make it more "alive" I guess is the best way to describe it. A very useful tone that kinda sounds like hmmmm Helmet from the Aftertaste album.

Any other suggestions on the VX and T/D?? I only have 2 tung sols and am using one in my home built and the other in the SL2. You guys think the chinese would work well in the lower gain modules??

My SL2 with a Tung Sol in V1 and EH in V2 just smokes. Can't believe it gets any better, but may have to swap some chinese in there to try!!

These modules/amps are so much fun it's rediculous........

I think the Ruby Chinese 12AX7As are great in the BMan. I got some Silver Dragon 12AX7Bs that KILL in the SL2 and E-Rect but so far I think they are a bit much in the EG5. Too much gain with them. I think the EH are the bomb in the EG5.
