I bought a Shure GLXD16 tuner/wireless about a year ago, and it’s served me well. I was going to go grab the rack version, GLXD14, and apparently they’ve recently been discontinued. I emailed Shure to see what the replacement might be, and was suggested the SLXD14. But checking out the photos, it looks to be built a bit more flimsy, and I’m not sure what band version is what I would need. There’s G58, H55, and J52. I have no idea what the GLXD16 operates on to compare and match.

Have any of you guys used the Shure SLXD series at all and can clarify what band is typically best, or if it’s even worth the money compared to the GLXD?

Slxd is digital but uses uhf radio which is way more reliable , glxd is digital but uses 2.4 ghz wifi radio ... not a huge fan of the glxd stuff personally because of that , there can be issues with drop outs in heavy wifi traffic areas.

That being said I know some people have had good luck using them for instrument wireless and basic speech stuff. I believe the glxd has a much shorter range of operation as well. You Def can't run as many channels of glxd as well ( if other band members were on glxd)

I had a few situation in hotel ballrooms were they had brutal wifi signals jamming the glxd and line 6 wireless stuff, and guests started rolling in and their cellphones caused even more issues. Ever since then I stay clear. That being said it can work well in certain situations.

I've used slxd for both instrument and mics and it works well and sounds similar to the qlxd series. You just have to make sure you set the gain on the receivers correctly otherwise the compander circuit gets very aggressive and squashes your signal.

Do a search for your zip code to get the correct frequency band for your area. Shure has the frequency finder tool on their website to help.

Hope that helps!

Ps - I own and operate a live production company and own shure ulxd systems and use axient digital stuff so I have a bunch of experience with this. Feel free to reach out if you have questions !

Ah, that's a big help dude, thanks! I haven't had any issues with my GLXD over the past year, but I'm in a relatively small city and the places we play are mostly hole in the wall bars, probably not much in the air to interfere with us. It's good to hear the SLXD isn't a downgrade at all.

@dawnofdreamx97 - found this post searching for comparisons of the Shure wireless systems, can you describe the benefits/main differences between SDLX14, QDLX14, and the BLX14? I'm thinking about making the leap to wireless, the pedalboard mounted form factor like the GLXD16 is attractive, but read many issues about 2.4 GHz spectrum and of course that model is discontinued anyway. Do the UHF systems play nice if receivers are set up right near tube amps heads?
