The descriptions so far are pretty bang on from what i recall about the SL. Its a great module and i'm sure i will grab another stock one soon.
I still use the Brown Eye SL all the time. Here's what i love about it:

1) The right amount of Gain. It's not really a high gain module...very useable cranked.
2) It's not really a true dual module..its the same circuit on A and B (identical gain etc)
3) I love this because it doesn't get too bassy when you switch to a higher gain setting on Channel B...same sound with a bit more gain.
4) Takes pedals very well.

Here is an old clip i did of Hot for Teacher using a VH backing track. I used a 2008 Strat with a Suhr SSV+ Hum in the bridge...

Great sounding clip. If I could keep Channel A of the SL stock and Channel B the Brown Eye mod that would be perfect.

Hey Doubleneck, Yeah i'm still playing with Classic Albums Live. Have you heard of them before?
I have done the Van Halen 1 show often and the Brown Eye SL gets pretty close to that tone. Although it
is hard to nail the aggressive bite that the album has...the Brown Eye will Nail VH tones from VH2 thru 1984 though.
Believe it or not i've done that show with a Tech 21 Trademark 60 and that amp gets suprisingly close as well.

Wagster, I'm not sure if channel A can be stock and Channel B Brown Eye. That would be a good question
for Dave Friedman. My Brown Eye SL is basically the same sound on A + B, it's a bit tighter and brighter than a stock SL
it might even be a bit less gain. The clip i did was with the Gain maxed. Also the bright switch is bypassed...Bass boosts
still work though.

You can't do BE one Ch B only. Has to be both channels from what Dave said. Both channels share the same signal path.

Dave just confirmed this. One thing I don't want to lose is the quality of the cleanish tones from the SL. It's warm and bluesy. I should just pickup another SL and have it modded.

Wags, just tell DF you want the A channel with less gain, that's what I had done to mine.

I think marvcus will confirm, it's very versatile.

That's true. I'm glad I read this thread, btw. I thought all BE's were the same and didn't know you had requested A & B different. With everyone saying their BE's A/B were identical, I thought my ears were hearing things...now I know they were just working right!
