As you can tell, the vintage vibe in this module brings out the 80's in me :D

I love the Crying in the Rain riff at the end...John Sykes is no joke. Very nice

great clips!

One thing you can really tell in those clips is how "open" egnaters sound even at higher gain settings, particularly channel A. Channel B usually has that extra bit of compression, so it's great to have both as an option or for different things (rhythm/lead).

Thanks guys.

I have found that the SL is so versatile that I could literally live with that module and nothing else. It is my desert island module.

I agree that it is a very open sounding module. It also responds well to volume changes from the guitar. Tube changes have a big impact on sound, moreso in this module than in the higher gain ones.

...And yes Sykes is the MAN!

HELL yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about! That SL sounds awesome!!!!!

Got my SL from Aeroic lastnight. had a chance to fire it up in EWSEthan's Mod50 that I'm borrowing while he's away.

HOLY #$%&!!!! Awesome, awesome, awesome tone. This module has just got vintage pure british tone up the wazoo. The picking sensitivity on both channels is fantastic. Nuances of playing come thru very well. You can go from clean to crunch just my backing off your attack, which I love.

Channel A, with a strat or tele, CAN get clean!!! Like, a real-deal clean. Very different than the sparkling Twin Clean, or the grindy bassman clean. The SL ChA set clean is super, super punchy, with lots of midrange in it. But it sounds incredible. Using a bridge high output bucker, you're gonna get *some* hair around the edges, but in a pleasing way. Push Channel A a bit more, and you're in Plexi heaven. Awesome medium gain crunch tones.

Channel B of the SL has about 85% of the same saturation level as the SL2 Channel A, but a very, very different vibe. I hate to use the word "looser"... Maybe more like, less modern-tightness. But it's not loose or sloppy at all. Diming Channel B on the SL was getting me some awesome, Injected-like gained up rhythm tones.

Not to compare Amplifier companies, but I see alot of people on this forum ask quite frequently "What Egnater module sounds like a Soldano, which one sounds like a Bogner XTC, Which one sounds like a Shiva, which one sounds like..."

As a Bogner Shiva owner for 6 years, I can say that Channel B of the SL module is THE closest you're gonna get to a Shiva sound, using an Egnater, in my opinion.

There's lost of similarities. It's gained up, but not quite "modern saturated" type gain. I'd call it "upper mid-gain", but not high gain. Every note in complex chords rings out. Single note riffs just GRIND and have an incredible midrange punch to them. The best part is, you can get those great tones at MUCH lower volume levels than the "B" brand... and by using the bass boost switches and the bass knob, you can add in that lower midrange "B" bump, or take it out, depending on your tastes.

All in all, probably one of my favorite modules that I've played, for my style.

(and trust me, I've been giving the COD, EG5, SL2, BMAN, and EG3 some serious test drives this week...).

  Two thumps up.

Great write up Nick! The SL has become my favorite overall module. The module covers so much ground between the 2 channels.

:aww: Damn! I want one now...

It's one of the best Eggie modules. EG5 is my personal favorite. But the SL is a pretty killer module!

Im anxious to hear Nick's SL... in MY amp. :D Sounds like hes taking good care of it. I wonder if it can get clean enough for me though. i use high output pickups and my attack is generally hard.

I just clicked on Scotts clip and Im losing my mind!!! Love the Andy Timmons' "Deliver Us".

Scott, youve got killer phrasing. Great playing dude and great tone. For real.

You won't get a super clean tone w/ higher output pickups, but you can get it clean enough in my mind! I use high output pickups, and also have a harder pick attack, and it sounds great! :)

Matt, you'll be able to get a clean tone in probably everything *but* your straight up bridge bucker.

In the notch 4th position, or neck bucker, or middle single coil, you'll be able to get it clean enough. But the straight up bridge bucker will always have a BIT of hair to it...

MY module sounds great in YOUR amp by the way... you F'er. You're gonna have to PRY this amp away from me. :gethim:

Although, my girlfriend will be glad to get the massive 2x12 rig out of our living room... :(

I agree here. I use H/S/S guitars w/ EMG's in them mainly. And positions 2-5 work great for clean. Position 1 (your bridge humbucker) will have a "slight grit to it" which I personal LOVE to death :).
