SLO for a bedroom wanker?

Both my SLO and Avenger sounded great all the way down to TV watching levels. The stories of them not sounding good until thy're cranked are a myth. They are all preamp based distortion just like most other high gainers, and sound as good as any other amp down low..

My Avenger sounded killer at bedroom levels and became a freakin' MONSTER above 7 on master volume. It sounded just as good as my VHT CL50 and just about any other amp I have had at low levels.
If you can find a used Avenger for a grand...go for it. One channel amp but it has a depth control and thicker tone than SLO 100. I had a serial effex loop put in for 60 bucks and it worked great.
Regret selling that amp. :aww:

My SLO didn't, so it's not just a myth. The one's I've had sounded great cranked with the master in the 3-4 area and higher, and OK at low levels but were fizzy sounding.

Do you have a pic of the "chrome croc" tolex? That sounds pretty sweet.
Sorry it took so long to get you these, I just got back from Florida with it and snapped some quick pics for you last night. Enjoy.

In case anybody wants to know the "story" behind the covering, I was told that when Eric Clapton was enducted into the rock & roll hall of fame Soldano made 5 full SLO stacks using this covering to commemorate the achievement. Supposedly 1 full stack is still at Soldano. I have not personally confirmed any of this with Soldano though, so don't hold me to it. Either way it's still sounds great, the covering is just icing on the cake.

I've got a new set of KT88's I've been thinking about swapping into it, but I like the sound as it is now, so I haven't done it yet. Maybe someday.

Core9, that tolex is killer!
Thanks, it's pretty cool. If it is truely 1 of only 5 ever made by Soldano, then that makes it awesome.

Thanks man! No problem on the time.

That tolex looks amazing and the story behind it is even cooler

OK, after watching the Soldano factory tour video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz1Z16JIaaM these amps were made when Cream was inducted into the Rock & Roll hall of Fame. Mr. Soldano confirms this at the end of the video. They do have a full stack there, but the head internals have been swapped out. Thanks tjon for letting me know about the video. As I had wondered about the authenticity of that story. You know how it is when you buy something used, you can hear all kinds of shit from the seller about how special something is. Glad to know the guy I bought it from was telling the truth..

Here's a video of Cream where Clapton is playing the full stack that Soldano still has. But oddly, the speaker cabinets have black grille cloth instead of silver as shown in the Soldano video.
