Smallest Egnater Amp

No - I wouldn't want a "hybrid" module. It wouldn't work right anyway - different EQ structures. I'd just like the option of changing the module AND matching the power section to it.

Why do we use the 5881 power tube? Because it shares characteristics with the 6L6 and EL34, making our modules sound better at volume. Wouldn't it be great to be able to switch between British and American modules AND match their output tubes correctly? On the fly? Even better - make the power section foot switchable. Who wouldn't want that?

I would put my VX module in there for a impromptu jam - it's clean AND pretty darn raging. Voila! Two channel mini amp. Of course I'd carry a couple modules. (Bman, SL2) for variety. Why not? It's so damn easy to slide a new one in there if you're playing gets more "aggressive."

The thing would be great for recording too.

So...

Non-oversized 1x12
Closed back
1 module slot
Footswitch for module switching only (and will work with switches 1 and 2 of existing Egnater footswitch so we can all use the same pedalboards)
EL84 or 6V6 with Rebel style switch
Rebel style power scaling
Direct recording speaker simulator out

Sound good to everyone???

+1 on everything minus the direct out. I personally don't have a need for that, as I'd rather use a Palmer speaker simulator ;). Everything else is spot on!

Don't forget the effects loop, otherwise it sounds perfect IMHO. No question, I would buy it.

So I called Jeff to talk to him about it. Great guy. He said he would talk to Frank and Bruce about it. Try that with any other company. Is that awesome or what?

I was just thinking this weekend how cool it would be to have an Egnater 112 combo for one module as my grab and go amp.

Jeff, if you make it I will definitely buy one!

Wow, this thread got really interesting. Okay here is my suggestion. Everything everyone has said is completely valid and the proposed format sounds like a killer! Let's go back to the head combo delima for a second though. Jeff, why not make it a head with a matching cabinet that latches to the head with threaded nuts and bolts that hide under the head like the old Fender Bandmaster head and cab combo? Or just put interlocking twist and latch hardware, similar to a Anvil locking case on the left and right sides of the head and cab. Then you could just set the head on the 1X12 cab, twist and lock, left side & right side, pick it up from the handle on top of the head and go! Instant combo and head.

Oh and Hell yea, I'd buy one too.

That is the way I want to do it. Sourcing the hardware to be hidden like the old bassman, which was only for tilt back not picking up, is a mother ^%$#@!. The Anvil type hardware looks like an after thought to me but still viable!

Here's an idea for Jeff-What about doing the combo along the
same lines as Minelli's Marshall combo......closed back cab
with top mount controls, putting all the amp knobs and input
jack on top rather than the front. This would allow for easier
view/adjustments of the controls instead of having to tip the
amp back for tone/volume changes........not a seperate head and
cab,but something you could pick up and go in one box....
....Kinda like the old TOL100 combo but alot smaller(and lighter!)
...............Just a thought,Just a thought............

Yep, I hear you. I'm thinking about it. I may make some drawings and fax them to you. If you use some sort of unobtrusive attatchment mechanism under the amp/top of cab and then used a Anvil style locking latch on the back side where it is less visible just for final security of holding it in place ... it could work.

Hmmmmm.

So...will the Rebel head/cab be "latchable", or independent?

I have been interested in a single ended power section for some time - one that could take a single 6L6/5881/EL34 etc and a power scale or whatever would be great, and would give about 10w
A 12" speaker and a module of your choice and you'd be laughing

I am having such a power amp made here in the UK to go with the M4 that I am hoping to purchase.

Very cool idea about the latching...I'm all for products that have that sort of simplicity yet versatility or options when need be. Basically, that's one of the coolest part of all the egnater products! I won't be in line right away for this combo (I have my eye on the E2...who's built in loop is just another example of what I'm talking about and will be very useful for me) but just have to show my support for the Egnater boys for just listening to us and always taking things to that next level!

I also have to agree with the OP, if I had to take only one module to a gig or jam, the Vox would always have me covered. Great clean tones in A and i can get all my high gain in B, and anything in between with my volume/pickup selector. For whenever/if this product comes out, check out the vox module if you guys already haven't!

And here she is - all 10watts of her
Slavestar10W014.jpg

Got her running a single 6CA7 and she sounds great.
I have all the sockets on the front as she sits to one side of my rack on top of a 2x12 cabinet, so it was easier to have all the power socket, input and output on the same panel.

She is loud enough for home use - i use Celestion sidewinders which are pretty efficient speakers and i am still loud enough to annoy the neighbours
Sound is good and punchy - typical for a single ended class A amp

This old thread got bumped up, but got me thinking, too bad that the rm20 can't be modded to take 2 channels. I understand it not being worth it for them to make a rebel amp with a modular input.

After hearing the rebel clips though, I want one :)

edit: and I also can't wait to see what the new products are that they were hinting at!

I'm with Matt...for city gigs, smaller gigs, giving lessons, etc, it's gotta be a combo. Or at least a latched/latchable small head and cab set. I love this idea too...combining the innovative features and portability of the Rebel, with 1 module slot so you can pick your poison and go. Awesome.

Chances?

would be great to have an Acoustic Module for those nights when you do a small set at the local bar. Just pop in the AC1 (Dual channel acoustic module) :D :2thumbsup: :worship: and when done switch it out to your favorite dual mod for electric. Im with broknstuff (since we have the same great taste) a removable locking head ,Midi, direct out, tube mix knob, ohm switch, :D alot like the Rebel. Id buy it, Just so broknstuff can ask me for it every chance he gets

Yep, if its a latched head and small cab or a combo, I dont really care as long as its small and Id only have to actually carry one "thing"!!
