First thing’s first: Without the axe edit I would’ve probably just flipped without trying it lol

But after about an hour or two with axe edit and loading my favorite IRs I was in business.

Here is my first attempt at recording with it. 5153 Red Channel dual tracked.

2nd attempt:
FAS modern II

Great tone, awesome playing, seems like an awesome grab, congrats

Noice. I remember getting an AxeII years ago; I lost 13 hours just trying presets lol

Super cool thing for playing/practice/recording.

AxeFx fx rule hard too; do a 4cm method into your EVH into IRs and watch shit go boom.

HNAD!

Sounds great! I had an IIXL+ and just couldn’t quite get it to sound “natural” or similar to “an amp in the room” and sold it. I’ve always wondered if it was just the Headsrush 112 I was using but put myself on the FM9 wait list anyway.

The majority of my presets are pretty basic, Drive/Amp/Gate/Cab. A big difference from when I first got my III and had PEQ’s and multi-band comps in the majority of my presets.

And it ain’t gonna sound like an amp in the room if it’s just coming out of studio monitors cuz those ain’t an amp, but into the return of an effects loop or through a power amp into an actual cab is strongly my preferred way to use Fractal stuff. My III sits in my studio and my FM9 into 2x12’s is my live/living room rig.

And when you get into the hair splitting over “does it feel/sound exactly like this other thing” you‘re basically jumping into a cross section of what inspires people to play; some it’s the ability to create a specific tone they hear in their head, for others it’s the pants flapping aspects of playing through a cranked amp, for some it’s just convenience. I definitely fall into the “create whatever tones I need to realize the song I’m working on” and couldn’t give a fuck about a physical sensation on the back of my legs.

Congrats on the Axe, its a great piece of gear. As far as in-room setup, I'd recommend a line 6 powercab 212 or something similar. I started with headphones/monitors only which is perfect when Im building a preset or recording, over time it felt very limiting when I just wanted to play as I was tied to my desk. So then I tried running into effects return of my amps, sounded fine but still didn't sound like it did through monitors. I then ran into a mackie PA, didn't sound bad, still didn't sound as good monitors, the PA was downmixing a stereo signal from Axe into a mono output so it lost some high end and clarity. The Powercab replicates the tone I hear in my headphones/monitors more or less perfectly, it is the best way I have found to get away from the desk when playing through the axe.

Try the 50w EVH and compare it to the 100w EVH amp block for whatever reason I think they did a better job on the 50w capture.... The Atomica and JP2C+ models are also great for modern metal. Those three are currently my fav for high gain. The Bogner XTC model is great too for less aggressive tones and the Shiva model has great cleans.

Yeah man, I can’t wait to dig in further. I’m enjoying it, and it’s inspiring.

I play live through a Electro-Voice PXM-12MP. It only weighs about 25 pounds, does not color the sound, and sounds natural. I play many gigs and am tired of carrying heavy gear.

I tried many different solutions. They either sound horrible, colored the sound, or too much to carry from gig to gig.

Sounds awesome Keith!! I love my FM9. I had an Axe-FX III for a couple of years and only did the trade because of playing live. Enjoy!
