hhhm, well all diezels can do low gain.... use channel 1 or 2 and adjust the preamp volume to taste for gain levels. simple
Yeah all diezels can do low gain and also clean, but even though I'm not an amp builder, there's something different from the FEELING of an amp when you play it that low gain amps (with few gain stages) it's just DIFFERENT than a good multi channel hi gainer with a good/awesome clean. It's incomparable. I don't know why, maybe Peter or Olaf or other amp builder can tell you why that is, but LOW GAINERS play much different than hi gainers, even if they have great cleans and great low gain tones.
no to new low gain amp box, waste of time/resources, its already there.
there is a thousand amps that fit this segment...
Same you can say about hi gainers, there are more than plenty out there, yet Diezel has it's own magic going which is the reason you choose it over other hi gainers. I take you don't play much with cleans or low gain tones which is why it seems like to you it's not that important and there are thousands that fit this segment.
I think Peter has a GREAT touch for amp building, the tone, the quality of components, the look.....so I believe offering a low gainer pristine clean amp (vintage-y cleans I'd say even) wold capture a good market.
I don't know the sales numbers and the amount of Schmidts that have been sold but the thing I see with the schmidt is that it's not really a hi gainer perse, but low gain players visualize it as a medium/higher gainer instead of a clean platform/low gain amp. Don't get me wrong, I played it and I think it's an awesome amp, and Im looking fwd to exchanging my VH4 for it, but it's nor this nor that at this moment.
Maybe it's the marketer in me speaking, but I really REALLY see a market of players that would love to play a peter diezel creation that's not a rock amp, therefore eliminating the "Diezel = Metal/Hard Rock" stigma.
Lastly, I'm not trying to convince anyone, I know peter is a great builder, and businessman so he doesn't need my convincing, nor I'm stating that Diezels don't do good/great cleans/low gain tones......I just think it's all about presentation and supplying a market niche with the appropriate product.
I for one would LOVE a diesel amp (with it's magic, build quality, tone, reputation, looks, mojo) in a smaller more portable form, with excellent cleans (cleans that rival any two rock, Fuchs, etc) and a nice low gain, slightly power tube drive type of saturation on channel two, a nice reverb and loop. maybe mid cut since it's pretty handy and it's become a diezel trademark in amps nowadays. But it's just my humble opinion.
