So, I bought two. BoGreen and GldFingr. I recorded a quick clip pre upgrade and saved a scene. I used my standard TN settings which is three Green Tri cabs. I upgraded and loaded that scene. I had to reset somethings like redirect to the cab and mics. The output was way louder than the pre-upgrade. I'm not sure why.
I changed the output level to keep all the settings the same and rendered that out. The post upgrade Green Tri seemed not quite as bright, but fuller sounding. I think the brightness can be dialed back in with some mic adjustments.
So, I did the same thing with BoGreen and GldFingr...meaning I just took the same TN instance and redirected to that the new cabs, keeping everything else the same. I had to substitute a mic, because they didn't have the ribbon160 (or at least one of the didn't). I used the s7 instead. Anyways....
BoGreen vs Green Tri...I like this a lot. More present, more aggressive, more upper mids, and more bottom end than the Green Tri. It also has a nice chime on top.
GldFingr vs Green Tri....perhaps slightly darker than the Green Tri, but smoother and somehow still more present than the Green Tri. Mids galore. Smooth and big sounding. Nice organic thing happening.
I didn't change any of the settings or moved the mic or anything, and immediately was pleased by what was there compared to my previous settings with the Green Tri. BoGreen will probably be used for more aggressive tunes while the GldFinger used for easy tunes.
Both winners in my book.
To the TN guys....I have a question. The GldFingr cab is a scumback and G12H30. Are they pre "mixed" and we're getting both cabs? If so, are they always mixed together? Are certain mics for certain speakers? In the description it says "mic placed before Scumback" and I'm not sure what that means. Any info would be cool.
Thanks guys. I think I can play with these two cabs and new mics for days tweaking out sounds. I'm curious about what both together would sound like. Both on their own sound good. Good job!
Also a heads up, there is funkiness in the mics when changing them or changing TN instances. When I get some more time and get my head wrapped around what it's doing, I'll submit a ticket.
