I'd love to know if either David or Jim has played this and, if so, what their thoughts are......

I had a Hot Rod 100+ at one time (for a short time   ) and, frankly, I found the Normal/Clean channel about as uninspiring as a tone can get. If this amp has somehow remedied that problem, I could potentially be interested......

Aren't they $2400? Why not get a used HR+ or Avenger for under $1200?

^ good point. These will prob be a tough sell at that price point....

How are these different from a Jet city JCA20 other than where its made and component choice?

You can get a WAY more versatile Mini Recto, with separate channel eq's, more voicing options on each channel, a better loop and less weight for less than half the price...

Less weight = less iron = less punch

Link says these have a couple of 6L6 tubes in them. That alone could set it apart from the JCA's and even the modded ones as far as bass response and girth. If it had EL84's I'd say just go with a modded JCA22 or a Pink Taco. A side by side comparison would be cool. Can't see there being that much of a difference in tone to justify the price tag.

Is it my eyes or does that pic look like it has 4 power tubes in it??

Yeah, but look at the transformer placement on the front view versus the back. Something isn't right with the back view.

I find it odd when I hear that a Soldano has uninspiring tones. I instantly start to wonder if maybe something was wrong with that head or maybe it just needed a fresh retube.
Soldano's are usually pretty consistent sounding. Whether you like that tone or not is another story all together but Im over the idea that their amp's are overpriced.. They arent. Not one bit.

Love the Soldano Overdrive sound, the clean tones aren't the best, but that's my opinion only. I had an SLO and LOVED the overdrive, especially after i got it over about 10 o'clock on the master, but didn't like the loop and the cleans were blah. It was way too much $ to have invested in a one trick pony, even if it was one of the best tricks ever.

I need to find someone local with an SLO and profile it with my Kemper.

Pretty much same experience here. I found the cleans on the HR100+ to be, well, lousy quite frankly. The cleans on the X88R preamp were pretty flat as well. When I had my rack rig, I never used the X88R's cleans - I would always opt for the Country channel on my Fish preamp or one of the clean modules on my Egnater M4 (ie, TWIN or BMAN). They absolutely destroyed the Soldano's cleans.

But, the Soldano Overdrive (including the 'Orange' channel on the X88R) are to die for. Just killer.

Wish I still had my SLO.

I've had a different experience with the soldano normal channel. Ive found it as good as most high gainer but not ALL. When i get a new amp, ill spend weeks learning it inside out. I do as much research as i can. First i clean them up with a maintenance, next bias and proper% of power tube dissapation, preamp tube roll etc... i pretty much force the amps to work for me. Hopefully by the time im done, ive learned a lot about what the amp is capable of. Certainly a lot more than what i thought i knew beforehand.

The HR25 is different than the other Hot Rod series amps. It uses 50 watt O'Netic transformers tune down to 25 watts. From what I'm hearing from the few guys who own one of these....they are saying it's more like a "Mini-SLO". These are guys who also own SLO's and are saying it has that bite, punch, and articulation of an SLO and sounds darn close!! This amp is no TOY like a jet-cty. It's made from quality parts and is a heavy and solid amplifier with effects loop, and two foot switchable channels. I agree, it is a wee bit expensive....but a new Suhr Badger-30 is $1,995 and that only gives you one channel with not much gain.

Wish there was more info or videos of the amp...but Mike S. is stuck in the stone ages when it comes to marketing. I'm seriously thinking about picking one of these up though!!

 Sir I am shoocked!

yeah, been kinda jones-ing for a smaller amp lately....also thinking about the Suhr Badger 30, just not sure if I'll dig that...or if it will have enough gain for me. I've actually been using the "Crunch" channel more on my SLO (even on gigs) so I'm using less gain these days.
