Anybody buy or try one of these yet? Finding reviews and/or further info on these amps is proving difficult and annoying......

One or two non-dealers posted on TGP about how much they love them, and they haven't listed them in the classifieds yet so maybe they actually do. Looks like a cool amp and the loop is in a sensible place in the circuit. But the SLO sounds great to me at low volumes and this little amp ain't exactly cheap (seems on par with a used SLO), so I'm not sure I see the market unless you just really need a head with small dimensions.

I also like. So where is the loop normal located on a SLO or regular HR50/100?

Steve: do you have one? Despite having no rational reason to buy one (SLO sounds great at low volumes and the rackmount is about the same size as the HR25), I really want one.

I think the return on the SLO loop is in the middle of the EQ (or before it) and the loop on the HR25 returns after the EQ just before the master volumes.

The HR25 is different than the other Hot Rod series amps. It uses 50 watt O'Netic transformers tune down to 25 watts. From what I'm hearing from the few guys who own one of these....they are saying it's more like a "Mini-SLO". These are guys who also own SLO's and are saying it has that bite, punch, and articulation of an SLO and sounds darn close!! This amp is no TOY like a jet-cty. It's made from quality parts and is a heavy and solid amplifier with effects loop, and two foot switchable channels. I agree, it is a wee bit expensive....but a new Suhr Badger-30 is $1,995 and that only gives you one channel with not much gain.

Wish there was more info or videos of the amp...but Mike S. is stuck in the stone ages when it comes to marketing. I'm seriously thinking about picking one of these up though!!

Is the effects loop the same shitty design he uses on all his other amps ?
Hope it's not placed beore the EQ and master like the SLO/HR amps are.

These post always crack me up.

Not a shitty design. It's intended for Rack Effects. On purpose. lol...

Lunch box amp and a rack full of effects. Sounds great. :) The idea of a lunch box amp is portability, who wants to drag rack effects around if your sportin a lunch box amp and a 1x12?

The loop in the lunchbox-sized HR25 is not in the same location in the circuit as the loop in the SLO. As such, the HR25 appears to have been designed to interface (reasonably) well with pedal effects.

I don't know if the HR25 loop is +4 line level or -10 instrument level. The location of the SLO loop is only part of what makes pedals tricky.

SLO loop is preEQ.
This lil' amp runs the two output 6L6 tubes at a lower plate voltage.
You can order one, try it, and return it if you don't like it

No argument here.

Another recent HR25 video with Mike S. & guests..... Cool story about EVH as well!

Thanks SLOgriff! Great info about EVH's legendary amp and Mike's tone philosophy.

Unfortunately by Mike's criteria I should be using guitars and amps made by Hasbro.

Yeah I saw this on the Soldano forum...while I love my SLO, one of these is really appealing to me. I pretty much exclusively play in the man cave these days anyway, and the thought of a smaller footprint is making more and more sense.

Ditto but the master on the SLO is phenominal.

Agreed, but the SLO doesn't really start "delivering its goods" until, well, you're next to deaf.....
