About 10 months ago I heard Michael Soldano might be closing shop and if I ever wanted a custom order it had better be soon. I ordered my SLOr from Mike in 1990 after hearing one in Roger Sadowsky's old NYC shop and after that several modification/upgrades over the nearly 30 years.

I specified a few things for a custom one-off SLO and viola'. It is the only purple chassis SLO Mike has made. It took longer than expected for a multitude of very good reasons.

As it neared completion last month, I sent Mike a retirement gift box including these custom made rolls of TP. Sorry Randall.

Mike expressed the desire to build this one himself as it is the last SLO that he will make. He is quite proud and said it's the best wiring and soldering he's ever done. I could hear him beaming over the phone as he talked about it. Should arrive in two days from Seattle.

SPECS
  • Purple chassic
  • Custom komodo purple tolex
  • No clean: only crunch/overdrive
  • Scoop with silkscreened descriptor
  • Depth silkscreened descriptor
  • Loop in/out( I requested when he was half way done). He thought the difference was nominal at best but ...wth.
  • Matching 2x12 cab in progress.
  • s/n my birthday and 'omega': final, last.

That is one hell of a nice amp man. Very lucky you!!!!

Wow.

Forget the amp.... Where the hell did you get custom toilet paper made?

So cool! Love the toilet papers too, should've made some Peavey ones as well.

Very cool man

Was it coincidence that yours was the last one ever or do you guys know each other and this is a favor as well?

(it will be worth some serious jack some day - i hope your kids/decedents can fully appreciate it) :D

Purple = tone squared, four times the tone.....it's a real special amp.

If that's the Omega, I wonder who has the Alpha?

Congrats! \m/

Alpha would be Mr. Science, I guess.

Thank you all for the kind words.

I've known/worked with Mike since 1990 with my first SLOr and various upgrades/tune-ups on my other Soldano gear. It was stroke of luck to have the last one. Mike had so many things going on it got pushed to the back and I was OK with it.

Damn, that’s so cool. I wish I could get my hands on an SLO.

Very cool, thanks for sharing! Interesting to see the white teflon insulated coax on V1 and V2 grids.
I get the toilet paper joke, but in actuality Mesa improved the design considerably.

So freaking cool!
I would be finding it hard to sleep.

Best of luck on your retirement Mike.

..and everyone knows Purple is LOUDER
