What is wrong with the construction?
Three PCBs, 2.4mm, TG 135, 105µm copper.
Doing it this way is the way to go when achieving lowest possible noise levels.
The designer knows what he is doing.
I've made the video btw

Hello and thanks for sharing the video!
Can you tell me what DSP this is? Or at least the part number?
Looks to be a TI of some sort, would just like a better idea of overall capability.
Also, is it possible to get a picture of under this pcb near that processor?
Appreciate your time! TY!

This is correct. The board should be made ultra stiff/thick and with ample mechanical support to prevent flexing of copper traces or even delamination due to repeated heat and physical fatigue from changing tubes.

It’s more on the board than the tube placement. James brown did it right with the 5150.

I would like to add that a PCB is fine - it's just that a PCB (in most, not all situations)is a cost cutting tool that should be represented in the MSRP.

That's why no one bitches about pcbs in 5150s and everyone bitches about them in 4000$ Engls.

At 2500$, this is close to engl territory

The 5150's pre-amp board you are talking about?

I personally don't have any issue with PCBs. I almost guarantee that I apply more force installing a CPU, GPU, or RAM on mobos that are thinner than that and have way more precision reliant components. Even multiple times throughout their life. My issue is what is that DSP chip? Looking at the components, I have a hard time seeing this over $600 landed.

It has mechanical support, buddy. It’s also a separate daughter board as it should be. Keeps you from having to replace the monstrosity of the other board that consumes the entire chassis.

You can also buy whole amps used for $800. They aren’t $2500.

Whenever I replaced pre-amp tubes in mine I thought wow, that is terrible design, but it never failed so there ya go.

Yeah fully agree. Thick boards and no mechanical support are alright. Thin boards and mechanical support are alright but not ideal. Any other combination other than thick boards with mechanical support is garbage and should be avoided.

I'm sure it sounds great, but 2500$ is way too high for something built like this.
You know I love you Dan but a new POS TRRI is now 2,099.00. This is built with the same garbage level PCB mounted pots and 1) says Soldano on it and 2) is purple. Therefore 2500 is about on par with new Fender junk so I'd say the pricing is reasonable.

A reissue twin is TWO GRAND NOW??

Yep, $2,099 at Sweetwater. Completely nuts. You could probably find a 68-71 SF loaded with JBL's for 1800-2100. I'm looking at a used 70 in really good shape at GC right now with celestion G12 "modern lead" speakers for $759.99. I can't believe anyone would buy a RI, you just have to be completely in the dark about the used market but even a google search turns up not only the RI but better deals on vintage immediately. *shrugs

Given some of the common issues with the reissues (they're by far the most common amps I do repairs on) that's insane to me

They constantly have lazy annoying shit wrong with them, especially for that kind of money that's insanity

Was going to buy one tomorrow but.....eh.
Rather snag a used TriAxis

„DSP is STM32H7, should be the same as used in Strymon Starlab for example“
