Have a really hard time buying the argument that it’s a boosted bassman. Said originally the boosted bassman was used for mellower tones which is reasonable. Those aggressive ass riff tones from Facelift are distinctly marshall. Would Jerry repeatedly try to buy an amp that was barely used in the album? The other albums that amp was used on kind of prove the point here too.

But regardless, chasing album tones is a fools errand. Boosted marshall gets closest to pretty much all my favorite album tones.

Been messing with double boosting lately for even more modern type sounds- so killer. Marshall4lyfe

he talks about the facelift tones here, its a blended randall, marshall and rockman. i have seen another interview where he talks about mic'ing a bassman in the front and back so he must have used it at some point

Here's the thing though....New World Man (Jack, hasn't posted here in a long time) actually talked with Ronnie C who confirmed it to him, more than once that the Rhythm tones on Facelift ARE boosted Bassman(1964-66 blackface) and it also 'might' have been slightly modded, the Chandler pedal was modded. I absolutely believe him; and in the original thread which is unfortunately gone Ronnie C also stated that same thing. The Bogner 4010 was used for leads, and to layer Rhythm parts. But the meat of the tone was the Bassman.
I can tell you though, if you've ever tried a boosted mid-late 60s Bassman they EASILY get very close to Facelift with any old boost...very low mid centric, chewy and sound killer. They just aren't very tight; which can be fixed with the right boost (modded Tube Driver?) or slightly modded.

Hey! I wasn't King Crimson, who I vaguely remember. Those were the Wild West days for sure. Me and Mike V absolutely went after John Ou!!
Nowdays, if I see something, I contribute, otherwise stay clear from any shit-storms.
No, definitely not Carl. Haha. The funniest garbage out of that clown(King Crimson), was when he started threatening people, he said he was 6'4 and a black belt in multiple disciplines. Lol.
I remembered that he posted a pic of himself, with Charlie Sheen at Cabo and was bragging about it....So I found the pic on a previous thread, and he was standing next to Sheen and a good 2 inches shorter...Charlie Sheen is 5'10.....Oops busted lol
So many internet tuff guys, so little time haha

I had an old 65 bassman for about a year. Really cool pedal platform and I liked the amp, not sure about chewy. Definitely low on the list for high gain tone preference personally. But ehhh…just not buying it. Too many other accounts say otherwise, in addition to personal experience. Just doesn’t add up.

Hmm, we'll just agree to disagree. The Bassman I had, was a 65 and double boosted into my 72 GB cab it got very close to my ears. In fact I was stalking a Bogner modded Marshall at the time, that was available in Germany but after trying that Bassman I knew that's all I need to approximate that tone.

One thing to mention as well, if you check out the We Die Young demo on youtube, Cantrell is playing his Randall head..and it sounds almost spot on to the actual Facelift recording....so I'm not sure that any of the amps used on the record were actually necessary lol.

And still, things occasionally go sideways....

If mods or admins had to accept first initial posts for all new members thwarting new account spam features then it wouldn’t be a problem and could be filtered. Unfortunately that’s not realistic so these problems stay.

We try bro, we try. Sometimes they just sneak by.

Fortunately, it's not a regular occurrence, but seems kinda coincidental.

I pride myself on my ability to get along with just about anyone…until it’s time not to…lol. Getting back to king crimson….gerlach….every interaction I ever had with him was great. I definitely think he was battling some stuff but he was great with me in our personal communications. He’s also a pretty intelligent dude. And I have always liked Carl also. The fuckin dude knows tone. His delivery might not be the most diplomatic but if he makes a comment about something, you can pretty much be assured he’s spot on.

Funny someone mentioned above if you google something other than Tele…RT is tops. Lol. That’s how I found my way in. Googled some shit about the original EVH5150..and bingo. Since 2014 I believe.

Some funny shit since Ive arrived and I know it don’t compare to the OG days.

Charvel-Dans melt downs are probably my most special moments. Lmao. That MF would boil-over-pilot-light-out in short order. Kinda miss that shit honestly.

IIRC, I joined here right about the time MF bought out HC. There were a few years that were really great over there, I learned a lot during that time frame, but it went downhill in a hurry.

I've been more active the last year or two, as my current job has me sitting in front of a computer an awful lot. There's a direct correlation between how much time I spend on here & the amount of gear I buy.

I believe these were the ones in question? Bottom left of the amp you can see Billy Blades Fireball. Should have been called Firehazard. This was his first one made IIRC and it says Serial #1. This was for "DirtySteve". This was his first amp prior to the cup holders, but made after his extreme claims back when he was just modding existing amps. IIRC.

You can see the impeccable soldering and attention to safety regarding his wiring below.
