Something inside Mod50 head is rattling like a mofo

UPDATES!!!!!!

Hey guys. Ever since I got it, my Mod50 has been rattling like a fiend. Mainly when I palm-mute an A chord, and chug away on it. I hear alot of rattling coming from the inside of the amp. It's definitely not an electronic/signal buzz. Doesn't really sound like preamp tube rattle either.

It's something physically rattling around inside there. Sounds like a physical vibration. Anyone have any idea what it is?

Could it be the hard rubber feet are transferring too much of the vibrations from the speaker cab to the head? I don't think it's the preamp tube sheilds, but I might take those off tonight to see if it helps. Besides those two things, any ideas whatsoever as to what it could be?

P.S. It still SOUNDS amazing... but the buzzing makes me worry about wear and tear on the innards.

Definitely not coming thru the speakers. It's totally just a vibration thing inside there.

Doesn't sound like tube rattle either.

Try unracking it and see if there is something rattling????

Nick is it a constant vibration or only when you play? The tranny in my SLO used to hum like a mofo, constantly. Soldano said it was no issue.

No, its not a hum. 100% not anything electrical.

It's a rattle, when I palm mute and chug on lower chords, specifically A.

Definitely some sort of sympathetic-vibration thing going on.

Well, tonight, I'll definitely swap out some preamp tubes, and take the preamp tube shields off, to try to eliminate some possibilities.

I've heard of this before. Look inside for one of these...

Sorry, I had to. :D

Just opened up the chassis, and found this guy:

Apparently, he hates the key of A.

Just kidding... it actually sounds more like a buzzing-vibration rather than a rattle.

Hey Nick, you say something about sympathetic vibrations and the possibility of vibrations being transferred from the speaker cab up through the rubber feet.

Try and put the head on a table far away from the cab (you'll need a long enough speaker cable). Then play, and see if it rattles. If it doesn't it might be direct physical vibrations between cab and head.

Then... gradually start bringing the head closer to the cab, but not letting them touch. See if you get any vibrations. Keep getting closer and closer, but don't let the head touch the cab. If it's a sympathetic vibration caused by a particular frequency, you'll eventually get some vibration when you are close enough and loud enough.

This experiment helps me find sympathetic vibration problems on my drums. Works well.

You'll still need to find the source of the problem, but it'll at least offer some point of reference.
