Can someone explain the B+ Option?
It's like a variac. The B+ option has lover voltage running to the tranny (I believe) so it has a bit more sag and feel compared to the full power QR which is VERY tight and stiff.

This. My understanding that the change comes more in the feel of the amp. Most folks that own both say they sound pretty sopt on with the regular QR but "feel" different when playing.

I played the B+ and own the QR and Nitro. The QR and Nitro are very different beasts. If I where to do it again I would get the QR with the B+ option. The biggest "knock" on Splawns are that they are a lil stiff and unforgiving. the B+ option fixes that and gives the smae basic sound as the QR but with a little more Juice. If you are into the down tuned Modern Metal then you would probably prefer the Nitro. The QR feels like a well sorted out Marshall with a lil more gain and the Nitro feels and sounds like a whole different animal.

Cool. I am ordering the QR very soon. Finally got the funding together. I will more than likely order a Super Comp w/KT88's which is just the dirty channel of the Nitro as that will be primarily for the heavy brutal stuff. Won't need the clean channel on that.

That sounds like a hell of a plan.

As others have posted I have a Nitro and a Competition (quick rod 50 watts no clean) and they couldn't be more different IMHO. Both of mine have EL34's and I have played them both through a Splawn 2x12 with smallblocks.

Nice. I'm glad to hear this from someone else who owns both. I would definitely do the Super Comp with KT88's. I have both my Splawn 2x12's loaded with Celestion Creambacks. Thanks for the input. Ever run them in stereo?

Have not run them in stereo. But I plan on going the KT88 route in my Nitro.

Been listening to a LOT of Nitro clips now. Making my ordering decision difficult. Would you agree the QR really nails that classic Priest, Maiden, Accept type tone with more gain on tap? That's really what I want.

Yes it nails the drier classic metal tones like Priest,Maiden. and can go even a little bit more gainier in gear 3.

Every Splawn I've ever played (QR, Nitro, Street Rod) nails those tones.
I've got an '05 and '12 QR and both are ideal for old school hard rock/classic metal.

FWIW- I'm a traditionalist so both my amps are in the standard black plexi headshell. Although I do have an orange headshell if I decide it's an orange day.

I thought about getting a black chassis and multiple headshells actually.

Might not be a bad idea for resale. Some of those custom tolex jobs aren't for everyone.

#5 look amazing IMHO. I had a Splawn 2010 QR and it could do those tones really well. The Nitro is very compressed in some clips and not quite so bad in others so hard to tell. Also, the QR is very stiff and that why I moved on. Still a nice head though!

I have heard the issue of stiffness. Lots of folks said that about the VHT Deliverance 120 too but I loved it. I think the new B+ option will remedy that in the QR.

I agree, #5 is tits looking. Too tough to decide!

The new QR's are no where near as tight or stiff as the older ones. Much more compressed and saturated IME.

Nice! any clip that starts out with Loudness is ok by me! Did you get the standard or B+? Sorry, I'm asking everyone the same thing. Also, what's yours look like? That white rig looks killer.

I just got the plexi style black with gold piping. B+ drop as well. I wanted the cosmetics basic because LP is correct that a custom created headshell would be a little more difficult to move. I have no plans on selling mine anytime soon so.....To note, I did swap out the pre's as follows, You will have to pardon me on the exact numbers/codes on the pre's since the head is not right here in front of me.

V1 - Ruby HG+AC5
V2 - Ruby HG+AC7
V3 - Tungsol (really makes her dirty while maintaining that sweet clean)
V4 - Phillips NOS 12AX7.

Like you I was a little torn on the whole Ntro/QR mental debate. I love the sound of a Diezel (I know completly different animal)and know that he loads em up with Ruby's so I figured what the hell and went on the expierment trail. Results: More gain and a little darker with the overall tone. I also noticed that EQ now quells this mid thing that splawn owners bring up now and again. Me? I don't hear it. My main guitar is a custom made LP custom with duncan blackouts. Ya talk about pushing the shit out of the front end  !!!!!!
