Stevie Ray Vaughan's Dumble and the Return of Dumble Amplifiers at NAMM 2025

I like head-cab arrangements but combos are convenient for gigs and jams. I've looked at the Ceriatone stuff, it's definitely more affordable and seems to sound good. Not sure an amp will be in the cards this year but I figured at the new MSRP prices I have plenty of time to look first, lol.

Hearing you say this makes me feel better. I never know which way to go but I do love a good cranked up Twin with a nice OD set to boost. Wayne/Griffin Analog is working on an improved version of the Cornerstone Labs Gladio that I plan on picking up so my thought was using that in conjunction with my Twin and maybe some more modding of my amp and see where it goes until I have more money. Last show it was sounding pretty good but I'm still waiting for my bro to sort through the footage so I can check to see just how good after the fact.

A Silverface twin, correct?

The main difference between that and a D-style is going to be 3d quality, a little bit more pleasurable "Feel" (more like a blackface or HPTT? With a bit more squish and grease to it)

But overall just "more" - especially in the lows and midrange, which makes them pop even more with an OD pedal.

They also are quite a bit less "harsh" than a twin can be in the top end, although they're still plenty bright.... it's a slightly refined eq curve and a very refined compression, response, and "range" of gain when digging in

I love me a twin that's workin hard, but there's no denying theres a reason why people pay the big bucks for the d-style stuff

Yeah but I had them both put back to blackface circuitry as soon as I got them. They are pretty rich and deep sounding. Kind of looking for "more" as you said, especially for lead tones. I like the scooped tone for rhythm work it just makes leads sometimes sound a little hollowed out, especially if I have to keep a tight lid on volume and the amp can't breathe. A little more flexibility would be nice, hence talking to Wayne about the Gladio. I was kinda due to shake things up since I've used the Blue Note since like 2012 so I had started kicking a few pedal ideas around. Pretty stoked about his build tbh.

The Gladio is an absolutely killer pedal for blues tones, wayne will take care of you for sure

And IIRC that's kind of the point or end goal of those D-style amps - to solve that exact issue that you have with with rhythms and leads

I'm surprised he even offered cause I been kinda kicking a can down the road on his pedals for about a year not knowing what I wanted to do. He made an offer I couldn't refuse.

My amp tech offered to do some more mods on Ch 1. If I don't like them, well, I never use that channel anyways so it doesn't really matter. Then there is the possibility of cross channeling it with the Vibrato channel and mixing them. I have a 72 which is completely non original in a mojotone cab that I thought about having him use as the Frankenstein.

Some Neos are also on my list this year for at least one of those Twins. So theoretically I feel like I don't really need to spend 2-4k on a new amp to get a lighter weight D-style amp. I could just mod what I got but a 50 watt 1x12 would be pretty sweet as an "all around" amp IMO.

I'm pretty sure some of Dumbles fender mods are well known?

Maybe have your tech try a couple on your franken 72?

Some input caps were going bad on my '69 so he changed those to something more Dumble esque for more "tightness" he said, but the amp actually felt better, not so stingy on sustain i.e some of the "more" you referred to for leads. He offered to do some cathode bypass "dumble" mods. I have no clue what he's really talking about I just trust his judgement. Maybe after my taxes are paid I'll have him do a bunch of stuff to the '72 TBH I don't think I can go wrong cause he does great work for very reasonable and has yet to let me down. We are on friendly terms so, it's great.
