I had to laugh as I was asked to audition for an Ozzy tribute and they do BATM. I have never seen ANYONE actually play the intro totally right, myself included. Found this from the man himself! LOL Even HE knows what parts people most often play wrong.

No more excuses people!!!

I saw this but I still couldn't figure out what the hell positioning he was using!

It’s really cool how he visualizes conceptually.

Love that introduction / verse riff. His approach with chords on the "Then when he's found who he's looking for" part is really nice as well - has a great, full sound. The chorus riff is super slick... so busy, but a lot of fun to play. The ending lead lick in that song makes my left hand cry still though. That third stretch is wicked.

I just updated one of the guitarPro tabs I downloaded with Jake's "notes" for the rhythm parts. I have the leads down well enough. I always heard the 3 chord changes that we all mostly play wrong but for the life of me couldn't figure them out and I'd get rage pissed! LOL!

Dude Jake is such a darn monster. He really should be counted as one of the greats. Very unique style to his playing. Anyone who'd argue otherwise should try playing Killer of Giants correctly@ LOL!

^^oh Killer of Giants lol great great masterclass

I saw this a few years ago. I always knew I was off on parts but honestly couldn’t figure them out. He uses some really cool voicings. Warren from ratt and jake lived together for awhile and you can see they influenced each other. This is a bonus for all guitar fans

Saw that a while back. Cool video. He should do more lessons on his songs and thought process.

I too am guilty of "Close enough"...I always knew I never played it right and after watching this video..I'm still.."Close enough!!"...lol!!

This is not the first time that I've played something wrong for soooo long that wrong sounds right. And when I finally learn it right it sounds wrong at first.

Damn I too have tried the Bark at the Moon song plenty of times, got my version of it,sucks but works ! I remember right after Ozzy and Randy came through Dallas on the Diary of a Madman tour, then the plane crash, then Ozzy again in Dallas not long after with Jake E lee..I loved it and people were slinging Jake shit.it was ridiculous..I believe he is one of the all time greats with his own style, for sure that never gets old.

Jake is a killer player. He has such a unique style. Truely one of the greatest. I so much hope the new Red Dragon CD will be great...

Great player and was a huge influence on me, but I never loved his tone.
I DID like it with Badlands, as it fit that style better.

And yep - I'm guilty of "close enough" on this one... may have to re-learn it correctly.

I saw Red Dragon Cartel about 2-3 years ago and was front and center. Found out I was very close, but not exactly right.

Very happy to know that I have it pretty much spot on now :D

edit: I was this close

The man shook my hand and everything

I saw this when it was first posted. I still hear it the incorrect way, as that is what I was used to, but I play it this way now. When I saw Gus G play a few months ago, he played it the incorrect way, so even Ozzy's guitarists play it wrong.

I watched Gus's vids. I BELIEVE he plays the same notes but on higher strings in a lower position.

Go to the 1:15 mark. He show his way vs the Jake pattern

Joe Holmes showed me that, and he plays it wrong, as well!

He plays it the way that it's been transcribed and most people play it. Zakk played it the same way as Gus. I think the tone on the higher strings is better and brighter, the notes pop more. Again, that's the way that I've played it since the 90's, so my ear is used to hearing it that way.

I would also add that Gus is a little dude. I couldn't believe how small he is. But, the guy can flat out play. He did not miss a note the whole night. I've been a fan of his since 2003 and was so happy for him when he landed the Ozzy gig. He is a hard worker and deserves all of the attention that he gets.

None of the tabs I found (at least 20 yesterday) have the end part of the intro riff playing it right. Here's what I saw mostly:

Now, let's be clear, I posted this thread a bit tongue in cheek so understand, I REALLY don't care how people play it, I just know more often than not no one is playing it right and since I am trying out for the Ozzy thing, I wanted to see if I could find out how to.

I was also always way off on it by ear.. the opening riff is genius and in fact, a riff I would consider should be top 100 riffs of all time in hard rock/metal. The end solo I would always play my way but it never sounded right, now it make sense to see and is sort of that Yngwie pedal tone sort of thing or that bach thing where one note stays and the others travel away before going back to it. Once you play those three chords in the chorus with the F note staying, it just comes alive as well. I always did it the lazy or Zakk way, and something sounded like it was missing when i listened to the original. Jake had a brilliant rythmic mind.
