Strategy 500 with EL34

i really want to use EL34 in my Strategy 500, which could be better for optimal performance ? replace 6l6 tubes and use 4 EL34 and 2 6550 per side

or replace 6550 tubes and use 4 6l6 and 2 EL34 per side - Strategy 400 can use this combination

or maybe even all EL34 ?

i got some info that the Strategy 500 actually use the same output transformer of the Triple rectifier, so i dont think it really push 200 watts per side and those trannys loves EL34s

of course all this will be done by a professional local tech

I’d send it in to Boogie. I’m willing to bet a full service and mod will be cheaper than the local tech’s mod.

I run my Strategy 400 with EL34’s in the simul sockets.

I would caution you to learn more before running those in a beast like that. Who could blame you for wanting to run all those el34s in it but do some research my friend.

I have a strategy 500 and love it as is.Nxt to my 2150 &2100,it kills.But like others said, I'd at the very least,call mesa. They're great with responding,they'll probably refer you to Mike b.which would be the best as he would know the 500 inside and out.

I would say you could put some EL34s in the center 6550 sockets and see how they run without need for mods. The other sockets would need to be modified. It's up to them. We have never done this. Of course you will need to leave the top off too"

i think they never do this mods because there's not many strat500 around and is probably used more by bass players
