I currently play my Herbert (and other amps) through a 2x12. Even though the sound is massive through the Herbert, I still want a bigger sound. What tricks/tips/pedal suggestions do you have to achieve this? I have heard of adding time based effects (delay, chorus, reverb) to achieve this. Is this the only route?

And before someone suggests it, I do not have room to run a second Diezel in stereo :(

I would try Reverb and delay. But remember: less is more! And perhaps a tiny little bit of chorus. Perhaps 5% in the mix. You´ll have to try and find out what you like best ;)

A pair of 4X12 cabs   and maybe a VH4 on top of the other cab!

I'm gonna have to disagree with everybody in this thread..... respectfully. :)

My rig consist of 2 1x12s and a VH4S currently & I'm proud to play it next to 4x12s & 2 amp rigs. Get the right speakers & the right pickups & it WILL sound big without 1000lbs of gear. You can try the Adam Jones thing & put throw some subtle delay in there too, if you don't need that face ripping punch.

Totally agree with the last posts. Get another amp, (doesn't have to be as great) and put it at the other side of the room.

You might want to look into a detune effect to add width without a chorusing effect.

What comes to mind is the Boss PS-5 SUPER Shifter Pedal.

If you're into to pedals then this might get you there. You can get them for under $150 USD. However, if you are a rack guy (40DD :D) like me then for about $150 more you can pick up a new or used tc electronic g-major and have the detune effect with 6+ effects, simultaneously.

I'll say it again:

Sorry Bra...I was only trying to help. :(

I still think that a quick way to "do what you are asking for" is to look into Detune...

sorry about this: maybe fresh strings XD

i had the same problem but:
Now a days i tend to use just enough gain before the signal gets compressed. It was something getting used to for me(always played with just to much gain), but made me a far better guitar player, you have to do more te make youre playing sound clean. But the sound/tone is far bigger and open.

+1 :2thumbsup:

Danno and I BOTH know the power of this lil' MONSTER!!!

Secondly, as there's not much difference in size from a 2x12 to a 4x12, sell the 2x12 and go with the full size 4x12. it does make a difference.

Peace,
V.

Get bigger fingers. After all, tone is in the hands. ;)

Ok, firstly - you don't need another amp. As mentioned before - pickups & speakers! What pickups do you use? What speakers does your 2x12 have? You could consider getting another 2x12 and seperating the cabs?
