With the SL and the VX together in the same amp im seriously running the risk of awesome overflowing onto my speaker cabs.

I was first surprised at how heavy channel B on the VX could get, it crushes! A definite winner for those seeking a cool, less than typical high gain rhythm tone, especially when throwing different boosts in front, although it dosent need them to get heavy. Channel A has that cool Vox chime to it, you get all that cool woody character on the wound strings when you flick to a neck humbucker. Both channels are killer platforms for boosts, and they even do that classic Vox compression thing when you hit em' hard.

Bottom line, you need it. If you already have one, buy another to keep under your pillow. You will sleep better and wake up feeling refreshed.

I agree 100%, it's my favorite module!!! I'm so happy that when I bought my mod50 it came with the vx, because that module would have not been on my radar (never played a vox). Channel B is a GREAT high gain rhythm tone. It's not death or trash metal high gain, but very organic and full sounding, and the top end is very clear. Despite all the gain you can still hear all the notes of the chord.

It's also a really great lead tone. Just because it can do Brian May doesn't mean that's all it can do! With Channel B you can solo along with rock or even with an acoustic/piano kind of song and not sound like all those cheesy 80s guitar solo out of nowhere. It's very clear and open.

Channel A has this amazing "janglyness" going on. That tone alone got me writting somethings that I'm really digging, so it's definitely been an inspirational model for me. It has so many great tones I could see loading up the mod50 with two of them set differently. That, or running them together!

Although they all do, this module responds incredibly well to pickup and volume/tone knob adjustments. While my midi cable was busted, I just used the vx to get all my tones.

:rawk:

I definitely need to check out the SL, from all that I've been hearing I think I'm going to love it too.

I definitely think you would dig the SL. It dosent have the top end clarity that the VX has, but its got that magical violin-esque midrange. I imagine the SL and VX tracked together as dirty rhythms would mesh nicely.

What you mentioned about playing over different styles is what I love about these mid gain modules. They are so musical sounding, they have all the gain without the "distortion" so to speak.

If I could only use one module, it would either be the VX or the SL.

They both kick so much ass, it's unbelievable.

VX ChA + 2290 + single coils = Instant Edge

SL Ch B, gain maxed + dropped D = Tight viking metal.

I will have a Vx at some point in the future. Its basically certain.

Yeah... me too. Once holiday shopping madness is over. :D

Me three. The Vx is the next module on my hit list! Then the COD, then the DLX, then the Twin... and then dangit... I really would like to see if I can get Jeff or Bruce to build me a custom UXL!!!! JKD just refuses to part with his. :gethim:

I think they will if Bruce can find the schematic. I asked Jeff about it a few times, and he seemed willing just as long as they can conjure up the schematic. I'd like to get one of them too. That and another VX at some point :).

Yea, I've really been craving a Vox module lately. Is there a wait time on mods or is Terri pretty much keeping ahead of stock on those lately? After the Holidays I'll have to check in with Frank and see.

I wholeheartedly agree! VX is a killer 1-2 punch. The SL is on my to do list as well.

I am under the impression that she has them basically ready to go.

Yea, that's sorts what I've gathered too. Maybe I'll collect a little Christmas cash this year ... who knows.

I keep hearing that the VX can nail Brian May. I'm wondering, what settings are you using to accomplish this? I'm using an LP and I'm not getting it. Maybe it's the guitar.....or my playing....

Can you split the pickups on your LP? That can get me the Brian May ish tone, although I don't go for his tone but I do like the sweet "stringiness" (dancing about architecture..) that you can get out of this module in A if you set it that way.

A lot of Brian May's tone comes from his use of delays, as well as Celestion Blues, a treble booster, and that crazy guitar with its crazy single coils.

Try building a guitar with your dad, growing an afro, getting a PhD in astronomy, and using silver coins as picks. That should help.
