I tried SYN-2 few days ago. Agree with real deal thing. I had MTS stuff before and imho it is step forward. Loop on syn-2 is great feature and setup is very easy, match levels, set midi/switching and you're ready. Another positives are involved famous amp designers so it became more 'thrustable'.
I tried Morgan AC and SLO module with SYN50-50 and Masotti Slave 100W poweramp. SYS50-50 (EL-34) is great for its size and weight but if You hear 100 watts of Masotti's pure power, there is no contest. AC module alone is what sold me in a moment, great chimey voxy clean, dynamic compressed AC30 crunch, boosted with TS-9 can do heavier metal with no problem. SLO mudule is great as well. I like it more than Hot Rod series. It is very similar with my Masotti X3M preamp and buddies Mezzabarba Nirvana preamp we tried in loop of SYN-2. Italian preamps have a little more juice and detail but core sound is almost same (they are heavily Soldano inspired).
You never get 100% sound and feel of original amps with one poweramp but it is close enough for having multiple combinations in one amp and modules are designed with it in mind. Far closer than any modeler btw

There are a few modules that are great alternatives to their origin.

If I'm understanding it, the Synergy guys made a big improvement over the previous modular systems.

It seems like with the prior systems, the V1 cathode resistor and cap were part of the input hardware and not the actual modules? And they used Fender values for the resistor and cap, but those values are way off from what you'd typical see for V1 in a Marshall or Soldano-style preamp.

It seems like the Synergy system has three sets of V1 cathode resistor/caps (Fender, Marshall, Soldano), and the module can tell the input which one to use.

On paper, that would seem like a huge improvement. Using Fender V1 values in a Marshall would sound pretty flubby, for example, and would require some downstream gymnastics to tighten it up. But starting off with the Marshall values let's you do something more "authentic."
