I'm looking for a good rack effects device for my amp rig. I've tried the Rocktron Intellifex which has great effects, but sounds dated to me. I also tried a Lexicon MPX G2 which sounds good, but the lag-time between presets is total deal-breaker. I'm hearing that the TC and Eventide is the best out there. Any opinions on these effects devices?

The Digitech GSP1101 is an awesome easy to program unit with assloads of great sounds in it. They pop up quite often for around 250 for a mint unit..

The Rocktron Expression is a great unit as well

I don't want to spend more than $600.00 - $800.00 max. I had a G-System, but I sent that back because I couldn't place the mod effects block before the preamp. I paid more for the GS since it was basically a switcher + effects... If I have to spend more for the best effects - I will.

I haven't tried the Xpression yet, but if it's better than the Intellifex, then I may consider it. I'm not a big fan of the Digitech stuff since trying the Johnson Millenium. That is one awful sounding amplifier IMO.

Ive got an eventide space and i had a TC GM2 before it, and I much prefer the eventide so thats what id recommend!

Depends which fx you want. You could get a PCM 70 for that and they are great. A Rocktron Replifex has really good fx as well. Some of the old Yamaha stuff is great, as is digitech. It really depends on the vibe you want, and the fx that are most important to you.

TC Electronic

I've had a TC G-Major, and now have a G-Major 2. I love the ease of use, and the effects are extremely nice. The Mod Delay on the 2 sold me on the unit. I have never owned an Eventide unit, and probably never will based strictly on cost. I am sure that they sound amazing, but I'm not paying that much for pitchshift and delay- which are my primary effects.

I'm thinking Lexicon for reverb, TC for delay, and go analog for modulated effects? My Chandler delay sounds like a tape echo, but has no programability. It's either on or off. The TC D-Two delays sound nice, but if I was going to spend that much, I could put it toward a G-Force. The Eventide gear is a complete mystery to me. The clips sound damn good!

I like the Intellifex but the Expression is a great unit. PLEASE dont judge Digitech by the Johnson Millenium because it literally has next to nothing to do with the quality of their products today. Seriously, Ill put up the Expression and the GSP1101 against ANYTHING in a live situation... you simply cannot go wrong for the price, features and ease of programming.

TC G-Force could be had used for around $600-$700. I just picked up one on eBay for $650 last week.

+ 1 for the intellifex..and you can get them for around 100 bucks which is a steal..they might not be the best out there ,but there quality sounding units and at that price

That's one of the reason I got rid of the G-System. That and the tone suck it did to my sound. If they fixed those 2 issues the thing would be a God Send.

These are all great suggestions. I definitely noticed some tone-suck from the TC G/S. Not at first - but once I began to actuate between loops 1 and 2, the difference was obvious. The Rocktron lets you run a true analog dry sound in the final mix, so I may check-out the Xpression.

Dude don't fk around n waste ur time. The gsp1101 is lightning fast simple to use and sounds like real pedals. All the rest have there glitches n bullshit. Gmaj2 lags just dumped one. Loved when I switch Diezel ch n a sec later the gmaj2 changed. Gsp1101 is current n never gave me a hiccup. The control 2 also is excellent to go w it. Great pedal board.

Ps the gsp1101 has a setup wizard that eliminates the cab n preamp models no tone loss at all !

I will definitely check this one out first. Thanks!

Line 6 used to make rack versions of their modeler pedals that are gems to find, but that Eventide is definitely a sweet piece of gear to have in your rig as well.
