richedie:

I don't use the solo boost of the NS when using it through the effects loop of my amps. In fact, I set the boost max to zero in this case. I have used the boost feature of the NS when using the NS in front of my amps. However, you can use the boost feature in either case. Basically, the NS attenuates the sound more and more as the boost max is increased from 0db to 10db.....then when you select boost footswitch from the NS.....the attenuation goes away as if it were set to 0db.

In other words, the maximum output from the NS is when boost max is set to 0db which is why you hear a reduction in volume as higher max boost settings are selected. This can work fine, but I prefer to not use it with the NS in the loop. I tend to feel the purest sound of my amps with the NS in the loop to be with the max boost set to 0db, however, this basically eliminates the boost footswitch capability of the NS.

Anyway, if you already have a boost feature built into your amp.....that is probably your best bet.

Yes, some tap dancing is required while using the NS, but I find it very manageable for my needs.....and think it sounds great which is more important to me.

You really find the purest sound of your amps is with the NS in the loop to be with the max boost set to 0db? I don;t hear a difference other than the overall volumebeing lower......

Sure I have a built in boost with my amps but that is an extra step I have to take to get to the lead patch. With the built in NS boost....I can just hit one patch and get what I want.

I did on some of my amps that have several parameters that impact the overall signal strength through the loop, but this could also be operator error on my part. I will say that I did NOT notice a poorer quality of sound using the NS boost feature while connecting through the loop of my Renegade.

Also, I am using my NS in "Pedal" mode to individually kick in and out effects....not "Preset" mode. I typically don't use a lot of effects at the same time, and even when I do.....I can kick them in or out (tap dance) like using individual stomp boxes.....that I got used to doing in the past. I guess I have kinda gotten used to it!

Most of my amps offer a footswitchable "solo boost" feature and I am comfortable just kicking it in on the fly when I choose to do so.

All this being said, I really haven't owned my NS for very long, and am sure I will experiment more with using the solo boost feature offered in the NS.....maybe with the max boost set fairly low....say from +2 to +4. I will definitely experiment more with the solo boost feature offered in the NS while using my amps that don't offer a footswitchable boost.

My amps are 20th Anniversary Shiva, VHT ST/50 and 2010 Mesa Dual Rectifier and I really don't notice anything but a lower signal when using the Boost function. My Boost is set to 3db.

All my amps have the footswitchable "solo boost" but when playing live it is one more thing I have to step on. Only time I use it is for solos where I do not want any delay or anything....just dry so I will then hit it or just before I use my wah for some more volume/juice.

Great richedie and good to know!

I will definitely be experimenting more using the NS and its boost feature with all of my amps. Once again, my experience using the NS is limited.....and it could have easily been operator error on my part.

I will say that I am impressed with the overall sound quality and ease of use while using the NS. This is an excellent sounding, flexible, easy to set up, and affordable unit. I no longer have a need for my pedal board.

Unfortunately I still need my pedal board for the wah, tuner, phase 90 and OCD OD pedal.

LOL!!

If you are in love with some of your prized pedals....then you are really doing a tap dance indeed! ;)

However, I do find the tuner offered in the NS to be quite good.

Note: when using the NS in the loop.....the tuner is still available by holding down the tap, but the effects loop MUST be switched in on the amp footswitch (for amps that offer a footswitchable effects loop) such as the Renegade and many other amps. I only recently "figured this out" and was glad the NS tuner is still available to me when placed in the effects loop of my amps. Just thought I'd mention this in case you were unaware.

Well, I prefer phaser out front and the wah goes there anyway.....the tuner on the NS I do not like because it can't tune below Eb and since I can;t use a 4 cable method...I have no choice to but to have my OCD up front but that may go too since my amps cover all i need really. I would be fine with just the Nova, Phase 90, wah and tuner.

No real aditional tapping other than the Phase 90. :)

The tuner was a huge dissapointment. :(

I did not realize the tuner included with the NS did not allow for "lower" tunings. I do understand how this would be an issue for those guitarists that tune their guitars lower than standard pitch. It is not an issue for me because I always tune my electrics to standard pitch. I find the NS tuner to work well for tuning to standard pitch.

Thanks for the information.

How are you guys securing the Nova system with velcro? I am trying to attach it to my board but velcro does not stick well to the bottom of the Nova.

As much as I am loving the tone and ease of use of the Nova System I have been contemplating going back to a pedal rig. Was thinking of just using my Whirlwind phaser, Fulltone Choralflange, and Analogman ARDX20 dual analog delay. I find myself using less effects these days.

I'm using an NS with my Rebel 30 combo in the effects loop and love it. The only issue I have with it is that when I first go to some at least one of my chorus patches, I seem to get a pop out of it. This only happens when using the Rebel 30.

I haven't confirmed this with extensive experimentation, but this seems to be a one time thing after powering up my rig that won't happen again when I go to the same NS patch.

I've experimented with the level settings but haven't found a fix. I just live with this annoyance and try to remember to cause the one time pop before a performance.

I do hate the fact that I have to hold down the bank up/down buttons on the NS for 2-3 seconds before getting there. I'd rather have to do this to get the alternative effect on for the patch up/down button....
