Sure Andy, but the levels are different - part of his problem ;)

your right BUT im pretty sure all of the input/output levels for every single loop/send/return can be adjusted to whatever the user needs. their is plenty of help regarding these on the tc electroncs g system forum.

The thing is that you get the same effect as if you have an older high gainer (say an SLO), gain up and you turn down the volume on your guitar - speaking of the guitar input here. The whole gain circuit then runs with idle 68k, which causes hiss like the Niagara waterfalls. Even if you go down to 10k (fx units - "un-level-balanced") you'll have the typical hiss, cause 10k is still too much - but thats the "normal fx level . . .
So either you can adjust the unit to go down with the levels (or use a noisegate) on their send (which goes to the guitar input when using the 4 cable method) or live with it.
Running the "suggested" units in a normal way (loop) doesn't cause this, cause the input isn't idle with 10k when turning down the guitar volume (or not playing), but less (at least in Diezels), which means less hiss.

Hi to all,
i'm writing from Milano,Italy.
My signal flow is:

Guitar out > G system instrument in
G system insert send out > isobox in
isobox out > VH4 in
G system insert return > isobox in
isobox out > VH4 serial send in
G system out left (mono) > isobox in
isobox out > VH4 serial return in

This is the 4 cable method..google or search in tc forum and hiss..hum..noise are the most common words.

With this method we split the two dsp of the g:
-wha/filters/comp preamp
-mod/delay/pitch/reverb in the head loop.

80% of the G noise comes from the first dsp..hum can be reduced using balanced cables
and an isobox..he2 or another...other issues can be fixed placing ourself into a Faraday cage.. :D

With an amp G system noise is more noticeable with another less,i've had my G-system modified
by a guitar tech that works close to tc...less hum and better trasparecy.

At home or in small club (i've tested it tonight) i can paly channel 3 and 4 even without any gate,
yep..more hiss with the G but reasoneablly playable.

If i want to appy the G gate on 3/4
-threshold 40
-damp 25/30
-speed 130/150
And my rig is silent.
