thanks for the replies. Now I have serious gas. To bad I don't really have the cash for one yet but I think one day it will be mine. Also does anyone have clips?

Shit Moore uses an SLO, I need one of those then.
Before you get all stoked.....
Gary moore has been known to use a soldano but he is also known for using a govenor pedal for the gain. I think that you should try a Soldano for yourself and make a decision based on playing it.

. Ane while it sounds even better up LOUD, it sounds great at typical gig volumes too, IMO. So its not a bedroom amp, but really, what 100 watt head is in all fairness?

Any Amplifier with a well designed master volume can be a Bedroom amp or a gigging amp regardless of wattage ;)

I have a boogie coliseum that is 180 watts and it can be played at home or at a gig.

Not trying to sound nasty just sayin!!!

Ok, but you know what I'm saying :gethim:

My XTC sounds great at low volumes but sounds better up loud. The SLO might not be quite so friendly at LOW volumes, but since its getting a lot of its tone from the preamp also it does pretty well at low volumes too. But it sounds better up loud, as I'm sure your boogie colliseum does too. YMMV, I take it from your post that you don't think the SLO has a well designed master volume?

IMO, the SLO is one of the best amps for a band situation...doesnt matter what the other guitar player has for an amp, you'll sound better and cut better than him if you're playing a SLO. The SLO has the sickest articulation so it isnt for the sloppy player that's looking for an amp to cover up mistakes. It is a very versatile amp and does a lot more than just high gain...depending on how you set the pres and MV's you can get blues, rock, hard rock, and hair metal. I love my SLO and it gets a lot of play from me.

I don't know much about these amps. I heard they are marshallish with some fizz. Is this true?

take a really good sounding modded Marshall 100 watt head...turn the bass and middle to zero and crank the volume, treble and presence...that is an SLO...ice picks to ears IMHO.

I can fully understand that the SLO is not for everyone, some people love it and others do not like it at all.... that is fine. Valid opinions preference etc. But your post is about the stupidest thing I have ever read. One if not all of the following must certainly apply

you are a lousy troll
you are deaf or the church bells where still ringing in your head
you are too stupid to operate tone controls
you have never played an SLO
you never played a good sounding modded Marshall

:D

In all honesty, I never liked the SLO. Year after year, I have always heard how good they are and blah blah but they just never worked for me. I also acknowledge that I like different tones then most people so people will always have to keep that in mind when I give my opinion.
I also noticed how some people love the SLO but when asked about what album/s were recorded with one, there is only a handful of artist that people can name and when you do find an artist who used one, the tone either sounded like crap or the person used a Boost pedal for the gain.(all subjectional I know!!) I think the SLO is one of those amplifiers that has to much mystique surrounding it because of the time it came out. If the amp came out in todays market people would probably steer clear of it. I also think they were always overpriced.

These are just my opinions!!
