Was thinking of ordering one of those cheap strat style Chinese made guitars..any experience?? I have nowhere to check one out, would order from sweetwater or music zoo, just looking for a backup/beater that's not too stiff. I like some of the squire's for this purpose but the LTD's look cooler to me....thx

Are they Chinese? I thought they were Vietnam...or worse...Indo.

They are made in the same factory that prs se,Chapman and shecter km7 are made. They great guitars

well I like the prs SE stuff, I saw China on the headstock on the superstrat style guitar I was looking at online..oh well I guess not much info on them..the search continues....

Who knows anymore?

Korean LTD's are for sure good guitars.

Always figured there'd be a day when MIK is the new MIJ, for selling stuff.

The 1000 Series guitars are, but not the ones the OP is talking about. Those are the 2XX series.

Vietnam.

If you get one, check the action and truss rod right away. I've had a couple where the action was sky-high, and the truss rod was no able to take up for it, even after lowering the bridge/saddles as far as they would go. It's their Achilles heel.

I played a 213 Ash strat and man it was heavy as hell (obviously an alder one won't be as heavy) with a big chunky neck. I asssume the solid coloured ones are alder and see thru finishes are ash

It did play really nicely, so if you like big necks I say go for it at their price point........like all factory guitars a pick up swap will be in order at some point

I have an LTD EC1000 from 2004 (MIK), and my wife has an EC401 (MIC). Hers plays and sounds every bit as nice as mine. Which is damn nice! I have better guitars for sure, but my EC1000 has gotten through hundreds of gigs. With the time I've spent on the MIC LTD, it's good enough to run as a number one guitar...as long as you're not a snob. Good tone (EMG loaded), smooth playability, and has been reliable to me. I'd buy another any day!

Her LTD F50 (MII) is not as good though.

The truss rod nut is made out of butter on the Vietnam models. I got one that was ruined when I unpacked it.

Yeah - the MIC 4XX series guitars are pretty nice for sure!

I have had 4 of these. 3 were from Vietnam and were of decent quality, think Squier. And my ST-203 is made in China but is a Unicorn. I had 2 ESP Vintage Plus's at the time and the LTD was on par with it. I installed different pickups, gotoh tuners, and graphtech saddles. Amazing guitar. Granted, being relic'd kind of narrows down the fit and finish differences, but that's besides the point..

That they are. There's a shop that's had a LTD Michael Wilton Sig model on their shelf for years. No one will buy it. Funnily enough, when I've gone there to test drive amps, that's my go-to guitar. I think it's the one of the best off the shelf players they have.

Greatmutah, are they asking crazy money for it? Curious why it's been sitting so long. Thanks!!

Not sure. It's been a while since I've been up there. I need to make a run up there soon. Need to refuel my GAS.

I have 4 LTDs

GL-256: Great for what it is being a strat style guitar, but hardware and electronics are absolute junk (to be expected). Neck and body are great. Made in Vietnam
GL-500K: Korean made, not much better hardware/electronics wise but a killer guitar once I upgraded pickups and tremolo.
GL-600MT: Badass guitar. Korean made, factory Floyd and SD pickup. Gets a lot of use.
MW-Demon (Wilton sig): Made in China. I've been told it's on par build-wise with the 600 series LTDs. Factory Floyd 1000 and SD JB. Gets the most use out of all of them. Love this guitar.
