Tell me about the G12-65 or the Weber copy (recommendations)

I am currently using an Avatar vintage 2x12 (the OS Bogner clone) that is loaded w/ the Hellatone V30 and a G12H30, but I think that the H30 may not be for me. It worked well with my Cameron, but is causing my Uber and Mak2 to have a bit of a raspy/brittle/papery high end which I am not gelling with. Or at least, I think it is the H30 that is causing this as I really dug the way everything sounded through an all V30 loaded Framus 4x12...
Anyways, I am thinking of starting to play the speaker swap game and am currently curious about the G12-65 celestions (old and new!) as well as their derivatives (Weber is the only one I know of). I have heard them described as greenbackish with a better bottom end? So I suppose that would mean it would have a smooth top end while having decent bottom end kick? I have never had a chance to check out a cab loaded with them so I am just shooting in the dark

And of course, any other speaker recommendations are welcome! I want to avoid having two of the same speakers as this is my only cab currently and I want to keep my options open for recording.

I have some original ones from the 80s. They are greenback-ish with less top and bottom, and a little smoother character.

 i'm trying to figure out the 65's at the moment also?

i'll be pulling the trigger, maybe tommorow on some? so maybe i can guiney pig, if nobody chimes in?

i'm either doing a quad of heritage 65's and a quad of heritage g12m's, or getting 2 of each of them and then 2 each of thier Weber equivilants? really just as soon have full quads, rather than mix brands within a cab, so might do 4 Webers and 4 Celestion?

hell if i know? some say the Webers are better and cheaper?

even though you liked the Framus, i'd probably still blaim it on the V30 in your 2x12?

for just a good all around high power speaker the Eminence Governor is hard to beat?

Do a search, you should be able to find my old G12-65 thread. I have a Weber G1265, its a pretty dark speaker overall, lots of smooth mids, not so much highs, less efficient than a V30. I am actually going to be selling mine soon to get a 4ohm speaker for my Fender bassman head.

The G12H30's can be bright, they take a really long time to break in for those highs to come under control more. If you want smooth the G1265 is it, IMO. I haven't tried the Celestion G12-65's, only the Weber....

edit: found this, but couldn't find the thread I was thinking of... viewtopic.php?f=3&t=20118&hilit=G1265

My cab has the speakers that are already 'broken in' by dave at avatar, and it has seen a fair amount of high volume playing on top of that(at least 30 to 50 hours), so I don`t think it is a break in issue w/ the H30.
If you want to move your Weber now (and provided it is the correct impedance) I would be willing to discuss it with you....

Those G12h30's should be broken in then.

I have 1 Weber G1265, its an 8ohm speaker, if it was 4ohms I would probably keep it for my bassman (Making a 112 cab for my bassman and the Bassman wants to see 4ohms). PM if you are interested, I will be traveling on business most of this week. I did want to see how the speaker sounds in the cab before I part with it......
