Tell me about the Suhr Aldrich

Very dark, thick, and hot pickup. Heavy on midrange and bass. I did like it in a light weight or thin bodied guitar, or one with a trem. Would probably sound great with a Floyd Rose equipped guitar to thicken it up a little.

They came in my Suhr Tiger 80's and the guitar sounded a bit sterile.
I changed it to Dimarzio Gravity Storm and the guitar became a lot better, with more bass, mids and punch.

If you want a white one hmu they’re badass. Big, a bit on the smooth side, but snarls.

Love that video. However, that is not the Suhr Aldrich pickup in any of his guitars then. The strats were loaded with Duncan Alan Holdsworth pickups and the Les Paul had a Duncan Custom Custom. According to Doug- when I aske dhim about pickups, he likes the Custom Custom because it shaved a hair of top end off his bright Marshalls.

I have had the Aldrich in most of my guitars. It is one of my favorite pickups.
Thanks for clearing that up! Man, I think I'd dig the Custom/Custom then!!

I’ve always had great results with the Aldrich and never found it to be thick and dark

But suhr aldrich is the pickup for doug aldrich huh.... and aldrich been using his gibson 57 goldtop I guess.... it should sound good on a gibson for much as I know ?

Yeah, true. But he doesn't really play downtuned metal either, LOL.

Then again, neither did Jeff Beck, and the JB works fine for that.

I ran them in LP's for a few years, they were great for what we were doing at the time but I ended up deciding they were a bit too compressed for my needs. My Langners were very compressed already so it was a big part of the picture. In another amp it might have been fine.

I'd do a Duncan Distortion, which is a JB with a ceramic magnet. My all time favorite pickup.

I love the Duncan Distortion as well. But from that family, I like the Black Winter even better.

But I'm looking to try something new out. And I'm on an Alnico kick lately.

Those are really cool tones, but not really representative of what I'd do with the Aldrich, TBH.

So I ended up getting a set of Fishman Classics, which I guess are sort of along the lines.

Close enough, I guess? LOL

Very dense, thick and chewy, but not dark to me. Balanced if anything. Not bright or dark. Big and fat in my guitars.

This sums up the Aldrich pickup tone. It is thick and chewy and some grind on the top end.

Great tones. That's how I hear the Aldrich. Really thick, far and chewy. I might even say dark in some guitars. More balanced than anything.
