Ok; I have a Perplex’d 3 Sig at my house right now. Stellar craftsmanship, layout etc. Killer tone.
However; I do find it a bit stiff under the fingers, not much “chew.” And it’s a bit nasally or buzzy—-something in the upper mids.
But it’s a good 5 years old and I don’t know how well it’s been cared for. Maybe the bias is off, maybe it needs new power tubes—it’ll be a while till I can get it to a tech.
My observations about it being stiff and buzzy are somewhat nitpicking. But when it comes to amps/builders of this caliber, I think it’s fair to hold them to a high standard, to scrutinize them. Plus, I’ve heard guys rave about this amp. Guys have told me, specifically, that stiff and buzzy are definitely not traits they’d associate with Morris amps. I wonder if she does indeed require a little tuneup.
Another factor could be that I’ve been playing through a
killer ‘68 Super Lead clone lately! That amp, through my PS100 and a StoneAge 412 makes for a spectacular plexi/brown sound tone! So my ears are sorta acclimatized to that. And
that is a tough act to follow.
Anyways, I’m babbling. I’m just hoping guys will chime in.
