Tell me about your experiences with Morris amps

Glenn is a massive electronics nerd/genius, and is uncompromising in his standards. This man will sit and look at a schematic, and he can tell you what an amp will sound like based on that alone. I'm actually ashamed to admit that I have never personally played through one of his amps even though I live literally 5 minutes away from him.

That’s awesome! Yeah his knowledge seems vast and unique.

Man, if I lived 5 minutes away from him, he’d probably have to get a restraining order because I’d be constantly bugging the shit out of him!!🤟🤣

I bug the shit out of him all the way from Texas….:.lol. Always willing and quick to answer my questions.

Ok; I have a Perplex’d 3 Sig at my house right now. Stellar craftsmanship, layout etc. Killer tone.

However; I do find it a bit stiff under the fingers, not much “chew.” And it’s a bit nasally or buzzy—-something in the upper mids.

But it’s a good 5 years old and I don’t know how well it’s been cared for. Maybe the bias is off, maybe it needs new power tubes—it’ll be a while till I can get it to a tech.

My observations about it being stiff and buzzy are somewhat nitpicking. But when it comes to amps/builders of this caliber, I think it’s fair to hold them to a high standard, to scrutinize them. Plus, I’ve heard guys rave about this amp. Guys have told me, specifically, that stiff and buzzy are definitely not traits they’d associate with Morris amps. I wonder if she does indeed require a little tuneup.

Another factor could be that I’ve been playing through a killer ‘68 Super Lead clone lately! That amp, through my PS100 and a StoneAge 412 makes for a spectacular plexi/brown sound tone! So my ears are sorta acclimatized to that. And that is a tough act to follow.

Anyways, I’m babbling. I’m just hoping guys will chime in. 🤟

FWIW, I’ve owned 8 Morris amps. I had a single channel Perplex’d and it was the ONLY one I didn’t bond with. Had what I can only describe as a “electronic” sounding sizzle on top when played loud……bad description I know. I had the small version of the same amp (15-20 watts if I remember) and loved that one.

Also of note that Glen has discontinued the original Perplex’d S3 Lead Channel voicing. The “new” S3 has the S2 lead channel……which leads me to believe he wasn’t completely happy with it.

I have a Morris Perplex’d S2, a Perplex’d brownout combo and I just got a a UK67.
Glen is the BEST. He just posted some of my clips on IG the other day.

Everyone in this thread sucks!!!
A Morris was near the top of my wishlist for a good while. I ended up snagging a Peters which I've been more than happy with. That put a Morris at the bottom of my wishlist since both brands seemed very similar. You all have started me GASing for a Morris again. Thanks a lot....
