Test with my HX Stomp - 2000's Metalcore tone

I think it sounds great, the original recording is a lot more smoothed out on the high end though.

I would mess around with filters or multiband compression a bit to try and approximate the smoothness, rather than just try to EQ it out.

With hi/lopass filters its alot easier to hone in on the exact frequencies youre trying to cut out
Thanks for listening!

Yes, the high-end is the biggest trouble area I have right now. I don't know if it's inherent to the way I play, to the amp model I'm using on the HX, or to the HX platform in general, but I think I need a very surgical cut somewhere around the high-mids or lower treble. But I've avoided it so far because I don't want to loose the airy presence I got going. The original has a very active top-end like really high up. I'm not sure if that is inherent to the mastering on the track or to the preamps Andy Sneap was using. But I'll try to look for that frequency, thanks!

Also, as far as MBC, I agree. That's another thing I've avoided, but I feel it's causing me trouble. There is a certain low mid stuffiness on mine that's not quite right with the original.

Not too familiar with As I Lay Dying, but the first thing that came to mind when listening to the clip was Bullet For My Valentine. And in my book, that's some good eatin'.
Thank you! Yeah, similar style of music and both contemporary bands! I love the mix and the tones on The Poison too, personally.

Is doing metalcore tones cool again?? I am so down
I think most people aim for the As Daylight Dies or The End of Heartache tone. And I love those, but my favorite is Shadows Are Security because it almost sounds like something that would've sounded right at home on either an old In Flames or a newer At the Gates record. :D
