Sometimes BadBrad annoys me, but I think he's 10000% correct about this

This is the real problem with the Giacomo/Instagram guitar theft scandal

Young players are great at curating their playing for fake social media, and as soon as they "get passed the ball" as Brad and Bissonette say, they fail and fall all over themselves. They never got "put on the spot" for improvising a guitar solo, especially in front of a crowd - because their entire guitar life has been meticulously curating an image of something that doesn't reflect reality for social media. Since i irritated @SpiderWars about the superlead clip, I think it's only fair that I direct fire at the young kids for something. (Fair and balanced™️ Dan News©️)

The ball will eventually find you :dunno:

I actually think this is a real, tangible problem with younger guitar players that I see all the time playing live. We will play a show with a band, and their videos will have absolutely MONSTER "snapped to the grid" type solos. Then they play live, and it's all exposed, and they're absolutely choking through it.

This always existed with guitar players, but they never got traction without putting in the sweat equity like they do now. Back in the day, someone would just "talk smack" about how they could play this, and they could play that... and then you would jam with them, or see them on stage, and they would be exposed. Now, the "smack talker" guy is Instagram famous and has signature guitars and millions of dollars.

I don't know how many of you guys have noticed, but I think social media has created a real problem with this. We, as the general "guitar community" used to "police" the smack-talker types, and now the smack-talker is the Instagram Famous guy who steals licks for clicks.

I don't have any social media, I do feel like I am "out of touch". I did see some videos posted here where people were manipulating their content to make it seem like they were more than they were. I am a middling guitarist, I let my parts stand on their own. There is nothing wrong with that, but to fake things, I just don't get it.

That's why this is specifically directed at the younger guys, I think it's a huge problem in that age group

Their entire self-worth (and in some cases their entire NET worth) is determined by their social media presence, and that's why this is a thing

There are still players in bars & venues who can absolutely rip; young & old.

While there are some absolute monster players in the YT/social media realm, it's about time for the overall trend to die.

Yes, there are, but the whole social media thing turned guitar from a self-policing community into a free for all for grifters like Giacomo whatever-his-bippity-boopity name is

There's so much of this fake playing, stolen music, stolen valor crazy shit, and it seems to be concentrated on the younger social media types :dunno:

Older I get, the more I dispise wankers who have to fucken overplay everything to try and impress other fucking wankers.

Play for the song. That is where the bear shits in the woods.

I'm pretty sure that we've passed the point where ANYONE can play what people watch on internet/social media

And that's why everything is fake/stolen/complete bullshit

It's telling though that all these social media "viral" videos are "virtuosic" without any of the emotion attached, like if it were in the context of an actual song. It's because they literally CAN'T play for the song, and even if they could that wouldn't get clicks and sponsorships from dumb gear companies.

I think some youtuber types are on the right track :dunno: I think Ola does cool stuff for his genre.

Most of it, yes, is complete bullshit. Instagram is the worst.

I'm just waiting for AI to take over music, and social media music. :D

That is 100% coming, i'm sure -_-

It's already so shitty and obnoxious, that we think it can't get worse, but we always have that event horizon to look forward to

Around here there are no younger musician bands. Only ones out and about are 40-60 year olds. All the younger ones are “artists”.

So there are only cover bands then 😂

Not that there's anything wrong with that, I do both, but they are kind of non-overlapping magisteria

This is all one big beta love fest. one beta trying to impress other betas. Then other betas posting videos about it. Then other betas reacting to the videos. Then other betas starting online drama about it.

Eat some meat you fuckers.

This (the whole guitar thing) is a symptom of something larger that a literal cancer on society

Girls see those fake ass IG filters and think THAT is what they should look like

Dudes trying to level up their guitar playing thing that fake ass shit is what they need to become

And neither of them can ever do it, because its fake and impossible

lol...

There is truth in what I say. This could all have been avoided if the original dude had just not been a douche in the first place. And what caused the douchery? Cowardice, narcissim, lust for instant gratification, deceit, personal insecurity.

But there by the grace of God go I...
