"The Death of Real Music"

Yeah even in small towns all over the cascades, this is what happens with original punk and metal bands literally every weekend, as far as originals

and at fairs and winerys every weekend with cover bands

Apparently people aren't even engaging with the actual point of this post, I overestimated everyones comprehension level
I don't accept defeatist attitudes like he was expressing. This entire area is a zoo of people young and old going out on the weekends and there is music all over the place from rock cover bands down in San Antone to original bands in New Braunfels to everything in Austin plus you have your typical suburban gigs which actually do fit he description he was giving. I wonder if he lives in the suburbs? lol

Baby Metal featuring Tim Henson & Scott LePage from Polyphia. Enjoy!

That certainly is more relevant to the death of music than whether or not young people play gigs in your local area, but I hate to burst your bubble @rsm

Tammy Hanson is a great example of a creation of social media, and his "music" isn't much of a representation of what he actually can play.

Here's what he really sounds like, in the real world:

That's what happens when Tammy Hanson, guitar hero, gets "passed the ball" as per the original op. What a guitar hero!

Epic all star jams like the one above can just die. I don’t care who’s in them. Always end up with people just playing over each other and usually out of their natural elements

well not everyone can improvise; they write and rehearse their music to be exact like the recordings...having seen them live, if they were miming to a recording it was very convincing.

Also, if you go back to a 16 year old Tim Henson, there are clips of him shredding Dream Theatre...clearly he focused on technical and composition not improvisation.

IMO

If he focused that much on composition, and was such a monster player, you think he could come up with a little more than THAT for an off the cuff guitar solo :ROFLMAO: 3 fucking notes and a hammett-ism? Really?

He isn't the worst offender, by far, but he's definitely a beneficiary of the new "fake guitar hero" of the social media era, 100%

Most all stars don't make good sidemen cause they lack the sideman skills of not stepping on the toes of the lead instrument with vol and wrong/bad/too busy of a rhythm.

This is true in some things, but I disagree about it for guitar.

Have you seen G3? If Steve Vai, Yngwie, and Satriani can do it, i'm pretty sure anyone can

The dude tours the world playing live, guitar-centric music and you think he’s part of the downfall of guitar music?

BabyMetal just signed to Capital Records which is pretty fucking crazy. Besides being Japanese, they are still gaining popularity 15 years after being basically a meme.

Also I slapped some Tim Henson pickups in a strandberg and they are pretty dope

I would say those guys are a cut above your average Tammy Henson all star get together in terms of skills and experience plus they've been doing that tour for decades so they are familiar with the style of the other players.

That's a fair point.

He isn't as bad of an offender as say, Lucas Mann, but yes, people faking their music/guitar playing is endemic and this has become a very real thing

I’m not sure you can say he’s “faking” anything just because you didn’t like his solo in a faggy Blooze jam. I mean they have a dozen+ track live album released by a fairly major label. Seems to be the opposite of a social media guitarist

Er... Did you actually watch the video in the OP?

Do you understand what the actual argument/controversy is here?

Dude in the video was kind of a tool, but I did watch bits and pieces of it. I haven’t seen many clips of polyphia “choking” (as you put it) live on their own compositions. They are also very fresh and original and not at all plagiarizing or ripping people off as was a talking point in the video.

Per your OP:
“I actually think this is a real, tangible problem with younger guitar players that I see all the time playing live. We will play a show with a band, and their videos will have absolutely MONSTER "snapped to the grid" type solos. Then they play live, and it's all exposed, and they're absolutely choking through it.“

I just don’t see a band, who has been releasing albums for over a decade, fitting that description.

This looks like all stars working together to me @VonBonfire :dunno:

That’s only 2 lead guitarists, something 99% of metal bands already employ. I’m talking about those silly 5 guitar minimum “let’s cram everyone on stage, even the roadies” jams where invariably half the guests get drowned out by the person next to them.

Okay, I don't think you're understanding the actual point of the post though. We aren't talking about a single band, the point of the OP, and the comments, is a pattern of this specific behavior. Every month there is a new "social media darling" guitar player who is exposed as faking his playing, using backing tracks live, stealing licks/songs, and general shittiness.

Do you play shows with younger guitar players? It should be pretty obvious that social media has changed the landscape. The "guitar community" (for what it's worth) has always been self-policing about these sorts of things, and all of the sudden it's the wild west.
