The forgotten half of Racer X

I guess the Kahler was the only trem Paul could have used on such a thin body.

For more Bruce material, check out 'The Scream'....1 album, self titled. Some great stuff on it. The singer, John Corabi, was Crue's singer on the ill fated 94 album......Juan Alderete also, from RacerX.....
One of my favorite albums. And the album is diverse as well. Not your typical late 80's LA stuff for sure. Everything about the album is great, production as well.

I always wished they'd remaster the Racer X stuff with the tones on this disc.. absolutely killer playing & production. That end lead run in "tell me why" just rips my face off each and every time I hear it - such clean playing.

Always loved Bruce's bluesier feel to compliment Paul. Another guy that ripped was Chris Arvan (from their instructional video after Paul left)

Hooo Braddah that first PG Heart of a Lion solo hits like an unhinged Waianae moke hahah
cuzzin those braddahs punched serious face everytime.

jeff sounded just like halford, paul and bruce ran circles around yngwie in harmony, and bass and drums were insane too. and whoever ran sound for them gets a gold star for that era. gtrs were always in your face and clear as a bell.

ps waves have been providing

So, my Tour of Duty at G.I.T. was March of '89 - March '90. By then, Paul had left Racer-X to record the first Mr. Big album. Bruce was still at the school 2 days a week / 3 hrs each for 'open counseling.' My buddies and I would literally skip the core curriculum classes that conflicted with Bruce's open counseling and just hang with him for 6 hrs a week. Extremely cool guy. He was still playing with Scott Travis and John Alderete and they did a show at the Troubadour. Bruce's 'regular' guitar tech was unavailable that night and Bruce tagged me in to set up and tech his gear that night. Unbelievable experience. That afternoon Scott Travis Rode into the club up the loading ramp on some monster crotch rocket bike / Kawasaki Ninja / something like that. Parked it in the middle of the dance floor. Soundchecked. And rode off - exhaust fumes heavy in the air. Alpha Dog Move. What an unbelievable year.

Incredible story. There are a few bands that I would have loved to see perform that I won’t be able to see due to a significantly different than advertised line up change, (RIP), or no longer touring. This is one of those bands!

Any idea what they were using for amps and effects back then? I always liked their tones on Second Heat

Bruce was still using an ADA feeding 2 Ampeg tube heads - sorry I do not know which model - and driving 4 Carvin 4x12s. It shouldn't have sounded as good as it did, but Bruce always dialed more low end and low-mids into his tone than Paul did. It had alotta' thump. Those old ampegs were just monster pristine clean tube power. Not sure what speakers were loaded in the Carvin cabs - but they got those during a brief endorsement deal. They had painted them all neon pink and green, but Bruce had sprayed those 4 back to basic black by that show.

I wish there would have been a magic button to just slow that year down a little. It was over in a blink of an eye - like most of the coolest experiences in life, right???

i believe it was vintage ampeg V4 heads as i recall hearing PG used to use one. they were very thick dark amps that worked amazingly well with bright preamps. i ran an og metal zone into mine!
