Please, for all the people talking about components, enlighten us with which components in the original IIC+ are no longer available.

The only thing I can think of is if it used vactrols for channel switching as the original company doing them stopped making them because they're not a great option for channel switching... and IIRC another company has started making them if Mesa is dumb enough to still use them.

There are just not a lot of exotic components in amps guys. Caps and resistors are still made, and electrolytic caps have actually gotten better over time.

And if you want to bring up transformers please include what in a transformer can't be done, specifically, and not some vague nonsense about the EPA banning something. I've looked into that one and was never able to identify anything used in a transformer that has been banned and is not allowed to be used anymore.

I'd just really like to know what magical component can't be reproduced in these things vs mythology as a guy that has actually built a bunch of amps.

I played a JP, and the store also had a Mk IV. Honestly, that Mk IV sounded the closest to any of the 4 C+ I owned, over the JP and far far better than the 2 Mk IIIs I had.
I honestly don't understand the Mk III love but to each their own. The Red and Purple DRGs I had both were very harsh/scratchy in the upper mids/highs. The Mk IV was way better.
The VII sounds really good...but doesn't 'punch' you with the power section like the vintage ones do. According to a Mark guy who's had them all.
When I had a Mark III i dug it quite a bit at the time, and it was a red stripe DRG but I will agree that the Mark IV does sound better, especially at band volumes. I always had a problem with the highs of the Mark III, and it had a grainy kinda texture to the gain... made it very difficult to record. I ended up using a boosted solid state Randall rg100es to record my bands demo because I had such a hard time getting the tone I wanted out of the III. The Randall killed in the studio.

Of course it is possible, Mark IIC+ was Mark IIC, and Mark IIC is a continuation of Mark IIA and Mark IIB. Technically, any of the older Mark IIs can be converted to IIC+. Depends on the price and who makes the mod, Mesa doesn't do that anymore as far as I know.
No, not possible anymore. It WAS possible years ago to do it; but that was when Mike B had extra RP10/11 preamp boards. Now there are no more. If you think it's possible by taking a 2B, with an R9 version preamp board Mike B will tell you no it's not.
If you think some other tech out there CAN mod a different board into a C+, well, have at it.
Let us know how it turns out.

So, I understand where you are coming from. But, I have to ask...why then, is the JP2C far different than a real vintage C+?

I've played a JP, and while it is a cool amp, it doesn't sound or feel like a C+. It sounds like a Mark, and is a good sounding amp. But, in the room I also played a MK IV and that amp sounded closer to a C+ than the JP.

Same can be said for the Marshall 1959HW. Is it a great sounding Marshall? Yes, absolutely. Does it sound like my 72 Superlead?
No, it doesn't.
Reissue amps cannot sound like the originals...because the parts that were used in the originals, aren't available anymore.
If this can actually be done, we'd know it by guys that have both declaring "They nailed it!!"
Yet here we are, and no one says that.

I didn't know the nuances, I thought he added components to a modified original board. And why is it not possible now? The new amplifier is coming out, it the same PCB as the old C+. Of course, Mike may well refuse to make mods, but that's another story.

There is this...

One theory I've had is the physical size of the components & traces has something to do with it. Another is that the reduction in the number of big caps has something to do with it. Another less probable theory I have is that they're using lead-free solder & that may have something to do with it.

I envision many of these re-issues being on the used market soon or being used as one-trick ponies. Way too many channel switching compromises for the new generation.

It is not the same PCB. It's a modern style, non-compatible version and NOT backwards compatible for purposes of repair or upgrade. IMO this is where G possibly screwed the pooch.

He isn’t doing a ++ mod on this for sure. I asked.

Probably the most boring Mesa Boogie demo ever

Yeah Gibson's demo guy and whoever setup the amp are just floundering there. Doug and Tommy seem like they know what they're doing and it's interesting hearing them talk at length about the amp, but man that the tones in that video are aimed straight at the boomeriest of cork sniffing boomers looking for, hell I don't even know what. Dumble on a shoestring budget 60's style flubby overdriven AM radio tones that sound abrasive and knocky all at the same time? The amp sounded like shit there, and it wasn't the amp's fault.

Again, looking forward to the end of the NDA period where all the usual suspects will unlock their youtube demos at the same time so we can get some actual examples of decent tones from the amp.

I'm pretty sure Doug is the one that sets the tones for all Mesa's videos like these, and that's why they suck.

Which obnoxious You Tuber is going to make the first amateur review of this thing? I can picture the thumbnails now. One of those douche bags will be shocked looking or disappointed looking with a photo of the amp haphazardly pasted next to their big fucking heads. Someone should Re-issue the internet with less obnoxious. thats for another thread.... fuck i hate you tubers lol. Don't make me name names some of you fools post here.

also my friend that works at a guitar store bought weed from someone who used to deliver for ups who was inside the mesa factory for a delivery one time, and said that he heard it and it sounds awesome. :ROFLMAO:
