The importance of Songs…

So, what songs, regardless of genre, hold importance to you? No need to explain why - unless you feel the need. I have several, but “My Father’s Gun” holds a spot. What say you?

All kinds! "More than Words" despite being cliche is our song. It's also the only song I know of Extreme :ROFLMAO:
Lots of Industrial and Nu Metal songs remind me of people/events from when I was young whenever I hear them.
Another cliche is probably Beethoven's Fifth. When I first heard it when I was really young it was so intense, scary, and evoking. I still remember that feeling.
Same thing with tracks off of Fantasia, especially "Night on Bald Mountain."

Fuck. That's a tough question.
"Everybody wants to rule the world" When nostalgia becomes painful, that's when you know you're getting old.
"Better let it go" Night Ranger (Big Life)
A lot of Eagles songs. My dad always had the "Greatist Hits"8 Track playing in his 75 Camaro. He's gone now.
The entire album "The Heat" by Dan Reed Network

Eagles… Damn, what a catalog to choose from. As a group or solo contributions. Solid choice. “I Can’t Tell You Why”, “New York Minute”. So much to choose from.

“Children of the Grave”. The outro - especially as a weed-addled teen in my formative years - was fucking spooky 😆

Not sure if serious, but both of those have merit in the right circumstances and/or in the right frame of mind.

Thanks for that. I loved the fugees "zealots" in highschool, should have known they were sampling!
Even though I prefer a late 60's early 70's style of blues most of my favorite music in general is from the late 50's and early 60's before the creeps in the deep killed Kennedy and the country went down the toilet.

Into The Mystic - Van Morrison
The Final Cut - Pink Floyd
The Legacy - Testament (the live version which was recorded at the Monsters Of Rock in Reggio Emilia, Italy which has Musical Death(A Dirge) included as the intro, especially)
The Writ - Black Sabbath

Sabbath - Changes
Lita/Ozzy - Close my eyes forever
The Scream - Mother Father Son
Ozzy - Killer of Giants
Saxon - Broken Heroes
Duran Duran - Ordinary World & Wild Boys
WASP - The Heretic

there are more but these jump to mind right away

Aldo Nova- Fantasy
Night Ranger- Sister Christian
Duran Duran- Rio
The Cars- shake it up

I’m convinced we live in a decade and for me it’s when I was able to really start appreciating the radio tunes- too broke to buy records or cassettes. Starting of middle school when you begin thinking about “chicks man” Mine is clearly early 80s. So many good tunes throughout the years to cause the memory reaction for so many people. One of my cover bands is all about this effect.

There are so many songs out there that have special meaning to me but the 20-something that I wrote for my band and just prior to, mean a lot. They tackle anxiety, the pandemic, getting old, etc and I wrote what I was feeling that day so carry a special vibe.

Some songs that will always give me a feeling:
Led Zeppelin - Rock and Roll
Abba - S.O.S
Jellyfish- The King is Half Undressed
Metallica - Master of Puppets
AC/DC - For Those About to Rock
Dwight Yoakam - Ain't That Lonely Yet

There are so many others. Music always helps me escape and love it!

beautiful melodies that are haunting are so much deeper and more powerful than the never ending chase of how much more distortion you need to add to guitar tone or how much more preposterously evil a lyric needs to be for miserable people to snore scream incoherently to.

I listen to yacht rock and smooth jazz exclusively. It brings me to a peaceful state of mind as I sail around on my 42' sailing yacht along the New England coasts. The vintage champagne may also play a part in my inner tranquility.

Good morning Smugg. Do you have a particular guitar you like to bring on your sailing adventures? I'm guessing a vintage L=5 or a Gibson Citation?
