The importance of Songs…

Good morning Smugg. Do you have a particular guitar you like to bring on your sailing adventures? I'm guessing a vintage L=5 or a Gibson Citation?
I actually bring my Taylor PS52CE out on the yacht to strum along to great tunes. I feel it blends well with the soft splashing of waves against the hull. Also, if I go overboard, it doubles as a great flotation device.

Seems like a great choice for a boat-guitar. If anything were to happen you'd only be out like what, 11 or 12k?

Yeah, about $12k. But can you really put a price on superior tone and playability? If I were to lose it, I could just go buy another with my Amex Black.

“Hallelujah”. The original. I have a portion of the chart on a tattoo. It’s just shy of perfection. I cringe when I hear it covered because it invariably sucks. It pains me (really pains me 😆) to say that Bon Jovi did it justice in a semi-unplugged setting. It brings the feels…

Good to see Duran Duran can still do it for some; I was a big fan back in the '80s.

First baseline I ever learned was Planet Earth. Then I taught myself Rapper's Delight and that was it. Never tried to learn any other song on bass or geetar 'cause I wanted to be "free" from riff influence, so to speak, when I write. It's the same reason I've never practiced.

Fun fact:
I was mobbed at a Duran Duran concert circa 1982. 7,500 peeps screaming their heads off. The boys wanted to know what the Hell happened (the noise) so I was ushered to their backstage rooms. Spent over half an hour with them leading up to the show, at which point I was told to wait a while and then they'd "sneak" me back in.

There was an article in the paper the next day about the show and it said that the crowd went wild when Simon made an impromptu entrance from the "back of the hall". That was me. Only I was sitting 1/3 of the way back on the ground level minding my own business. Next thing I knew I was being dragged by security towards the stage whilst being pelted with roses and having my shirt ripped.

I was only 15 so I didn't deal with it very-well. For several years after that the 'phone rang every day with calls from new gals. "Is this Nick?" "You don't know me but...". My family refused to answer the 'phone during that time; they just looked at me.

To think, if it happened today they'd all be going into My non-existent black book. I was too-naive to take advantage of the situation.

Prolly should have mentioned that the guys were very-cool and I didn't detect even a hint of snobbery.

That’s a funny story monkey. I’ve been to 3 of their shows. Early big screens were used and live footage being played for full arena. Every time Simon or Andy were shown; the crowd went nutz. I guess it was like the Beatles. I think a lot of folks were for them as the music was pop-esque but not bubble gummy like “shake it up” from the cars. I always thought DD had a much deeper edge. Lyrics, musicality. The bass line on Rio is killer. And NR really had some killer synth skills.

some of the songs my parents and grandparents listened to when I was a kid, lots of big band, motown, '50s / early '60s, Dion, Four Seasons,...

for me, some of the earliest music I remember besides the above was the Beatles, Doors, Steppenwolf, Hendrix,...

All of the above spark childhood memories, some spark even more.

Lot's of '80s new wave, graduated from high school in '81.

I played and was into metal, but for music I listened to:The Cure, The Smiths, Duran Duran, A Flock of Seagulls, Adam Ant, Gary Numan, Pet Shop Boys, Japan, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Ultravox, Echo & the Bunnymen,...

If you enjoy '80s new wave, check out YT 80zforever channel, I find new-to-me '80s music every time I listen
