I paid $12.99 for a pack of Elixir Nanoweb Super light on Saturday.....

Mailman1971 often blows other guys for single strings so how much is 6 bjs worth?

Optima Gold strings ain’t cheap. About $23 for 6-steing electric guitar. Almost $100 for 5-string bass.

I bought a used 5-string that had gold strings and always wondered if they were the Optimas.

The store manager of my local GC today said the color coated strings are nothing but a gimmick and that the coating comes off in a short time, along with that the color coating effects the sound in a bad way...

The Optima strings don’t seem to be “color-coated”: it’s actual gold plating of some type. Supposedly one of their benefits is that they last a long time.

I had another used bass that came with black color-coated strings, and wow those felt and sounded awful. Like plastic was all over the strings.

My kalium are not cheap but not rediculous either. Coated strings sucked, my pick atrack stripped them at the first rehearsal, felt/sounded weird. No coated for me.

If you want to count flat wounds then the highest price I've seen are Thomastik-Infeld George Benson signature strings at $37-$40 a set. The regular round wound T-I strings are around $20-$23 a set.

Dunno if "the", but they're up at the top:

Optima Gold

I use these on guitars where I know I don't want to fuck with changing strings every couple weeks or whatever.

They are 24 carat gold plated. Gold does not tarnish.

One set can last me a year or more. No shit.

Tonewise I don't like them as much as my fave (GHS Burnished Nickels) but after a few months they "wear in" to where I like things.

About $33 a pack on Amazon currently:

A little extra love makes the strings sound that much better. Labor of love.

The coolest strings, blue steels cryogenically frozen...
