The REVV G8 Noise Gate kicks ass

I’ve been using the TC sentry and it’s ok, but I feel like it could and should be a little quieter.

I will have to look into the revv. I’ve been considering the Atlantic that Braintheory has in classifieds as I found a head to head vs mine on YouTube and it was quieter than the TC sentry.

Hey Braintheory, do you still have that?

I had a blockade before i had the tannhauser, and did the exact same thing honestly lol

When i hooked it up to my larry I got this weird squeal and couldnt figure it out. Turned out, i had the larry loop in parralel instead of serial

Yeah I had that same issue too initially when I had the blockade. Thankfully the guy who bought it wasn’t like the one who bought the Phalanx lol

I still have it yes. Haven’t tried the sentry, maybe from that same clip, but hard to remember/keep track of everything lol. All the ones I still have (when set right) can make things dead quiet without turning up their knobs that high

Don’t bother with the sentry, compared to the Atlantic it’s screaming loud.

To clarify, also, now that I’m recalling a bit more, all these gates I’ve had had noticeable tone color to me (or suck for me in many cases), but some had it in ways I really didn’t like. The Blockade from what I recall I think colored in a plastic-y sorta way (it was very effective though in actually efficiently removing noise). My Golem has lots of color, but in a way that I actually think is beneficial for modern metal, but not great for most other stuff lol. The Phalanx’s color seems to be a little darker/muffled, less clear, but I find its color more subtle than most other gates I’ve had. All pedals I’ve got period I find color my tone (partly why I’m not a huge pedal guy). I actually use my Thorpy Scarlet Tunic (turned off) because it makes my stock 1972 SuperLead sound amazing with its color lol. As an actual boost/overdrive it can be good too, but wouldn’t choose over others I’ve got for that purpose (I know it’s basically a very expensive buffer for me, but seriously the best one I have). My ‘80’s Boss HM-2 is actually my 2nd favorite for that purpose. I compared them all of what I have

Backed up like a 60 year old after eating a block of cheese.....

???

Seriously though, not sure but I'm ok with it. Local business and has a bunch of repairs. I'd rather help him out them some big shop.

I'm probably going to get a Boss Katana in the not so distant future and want to try it with that as well.

From what I've heard, it is doing a great job considering I have bad wiring in my house I'm sure, pedals, and a high gain amp.
Definitely. That’s cool as hell

So the G8 came in last week and I returned it. It was better than some other gates I’ve had, but honestly felt the Phalanx & Golem blew it away. The G8 had to me undesirable color/tone suck still, something a bit artificial sounding about the color it added. As a gate itself it was still unnatural in feel and decay on leadwork and couldn’t do the real fast gating like the Golem for that fast stop/start stuff I sometimes want in modern metal. The Phalanx felt light years more natural and preserved much more of the amp’s tone and details. Wasn’t impressed

The Donner Soph Gate also came last week and sold it in a few days. I guess pretty good for the price, but had similar problems to me as the G8 and despite Fluff’s claim of it being the fastest gate ever, the Golem is definitely faster and just a way better product. So I’ve kept still just the Phalanx & Golem for gates. Still gotta try the Wizard Gate Minder and maybe the rack units. Seems rack stuff is often better than pedals except for fuzz or overdrives

How is the decay? That is always the issue with noise gates for me.
Quite bad honesty. One of the main reasons I didn’t keep it. The Phalanx is my only one that actually is natural to me there, but I didn’t realize until actually hooking it up the right way. Thankfully when I sold it the buyer also didn’t know how to hook it up properly, so he returned it and I figured it out eventually. I actually sent it to Highwind for repair because the buyer & I both thought it was broken lol and he couldn’t find anything wrong because it was totally fine, but he seriously should’ve wrote a decent manual or made some attempt at explaining how to hook it up, but whatever it’s the best gate I’ve had, still not perfect though

Ok an update of the REVV, it does a great job and I'm finding I almost only need it in the effects loop and still helps with noise up front. Not sure how that is possible but it is doing it. Now when I use a boost pedal, it does get noisy so I need to mess with some more setup ideas.

The REVV gives you four option layouts, with 2 input method, 4 input method, noisy pedal, and one other one. I think I tried the four input before and didn't help if I remember but this one seems to be working.
