b) I feel like my cab is holding me back, and hopefully I'll be able to upgrade to a Diezel 2x12 from a Mesa 2x12 at some point. Until then, mic position is the best thing I have to work with. The best mics I have to work with right now are a 57 and a 421, any suggestions on where to place them? I wish I could get my hands on a ribbon (a Royer would be sweet...), but unfortunately that's not happening any time soon.

With a 57 and a 421, you are well on your way to some good metal recording. Throw a Rode NT-1 in their, and you should be set.... I forgot which producer uses that 3 mic combo, but it sounds amazing.

Use the 57 for some edge, 421 for a great low end, and the Rode for some fullness.

Then you can use those three faders to essentially 'EQ' the guitars... Then send em to a stereo bus and enjoy.

ch 3 is more compressed and gainy. my favorite sound out of any of the bogners was the Classic like yours on the second channel with the bb preamp driving it for the gain, talk about liquid :inlove: i will tell you this too, that cornford hellcat is friggin awesome too, insane lead sounds!

From what I've heard the Hellcat sounds very nice. How did you set the BB and Bogner od? I've found the BB compresses, as in loses some bottom and lower mid. I supose I could eq to compensate. I've got one floating around here, I'll give it a try on the XTC ch. 2

the hellcat is amazing! i cant remember settings for sure but i think i ran the bb kinda like the andy timmons settings, bass noon or higher treble like 11 o clock gain to taste, and the bogner was set with a moderate amount of gain and emphasis on those lows and low mids that you were talking about losing, i compensated and ran the bass up a bit. i cant remember with all of the damn switches that thing had but i know i didnt tweak for longer than 5 or 6 minutes it just sounded great already with the suhr he had. biggest thing was running mild drive pedal into mild drive bogner and it killed! great lead sound for sure!

I agree Andy it is a great combination, especially using the Anderson. The BB gives ch 2 more defenition, cut and grind. It actually fixes the fatness, as I've always found ch 2 to be a little too 'thick' sounding, the BB thins it down and adds punch. Rolling the volume off creates some realy nice cleanish tones also.

As far as reverb plug in, I like to use impulse reverbs. There are many impulses around on the web and I got way better results with them compared to the "standard" cubase plugins.
You could use SIR as a plugin and load the impulses with that.
