What have you done to your DOD 250 to make it a boost? I always find the 250 circuit to feel like a very natural extension of the amp. I also like the sound of the vintage flanger, less pronounced, smoother.
I upgraded a few other components, added a toggle switch to switch the input cap between stock (10nF) and 33nF for use with single coils, but the two main changes that help in getting a slightly cleaner (less fuzzy) and louder and more crunchy signal: replace the silicon diodes with green 5mm LEDs and the IC with a TL071.
 
I wish he would have elaborated on why he didn't think the JBL was involved. Just listening to the Aint Talkin iso clip posted above, there is a snarliness to the mids and a lack of low end that sure sounds like something was between guitar and amp. But I attributed that midrange/low end thing to the JBL, which I have never tried myself.
 
If he added a smidge of upper mids at the board, he’d close the gap dramatically IMO.
 
Closest I’ve heard anyone get. I bet that gets some tan pants in a bunch.
