One slip with a screwdriver with your other hand on the chassis makes your a path to ground.
You become the circuit and at 500V, you can die or not feel your face for a few weeks.
The giant blue spark is pretty though...

use a screwdriver with a wood or rubber handle.

I used a Bias King Pro and set the idle to 30ma, or 60ma per pair. When checked with the shunt method, it was 12ma's lower.
IMO, the shunt method is more of a true reading and you do not need an extra expense in a bias meter.

Well, it (shunt method) hugely depends on the quality of your DMM ;)

Joey, glad you got it and like it. I knew you would. :)

Don't mistake gain for saturation. The VH4 has a lot of gain. I felt the same way when I got mine because I was so used to playing saturated amps. If you need help with anything, let me know.

An old VH4 where you have to crank the gain on channel 3- COOL! I've had both versions. Wish I had BOTH right now so I could compare which was better.  Channel 3 was my most used channel on both versions either way.
Get some SVET 34's in there!

Um i dont know if this is stupid but you said that you need to crank the volume high to get the nice juice out of the CH3, couldn't you just use a THD Hotplate or something?

You don't need too, it just sounds better that way. Plenty of gain in Diezels.

Mine VH4 is from 2004, I play Metallica stuff and never have the gain more than 12:00.

I saw your Edwards xplorer (EMG81) video that seems to lack gain. Just try different preamp tubes.

alright, I'll do that..... which preamp tube would you suggest changing? V1? (which one's V1 in the Vh4? same as in Einstein - the one closer to the guitar input jack?)

Maybe try one of those High Gain JJ's 12ax7's in V1, yea the one closest too the input jack.

I really don't like those JJ tubes in V1. HG Chinese sound much better to me.

there is no better sound, esp in gain, than the VH 4 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

greatest amp ever
