That's pretty well it in a nutshell... You know, I sometimes think I'm missing something, or a tone in my head comes along that I think means a different amp, or this or that... Well, I've had the IMMENSE pleasure of having the home and its studio to myself today - ALL day. And I picked up my most neglected Les Paul ('68 Firemist, we weren't getting along for a while there), and plugged 'er in to the VH4S - loaded the loop with the Eventide TF and MF - and haven't stopped playing till now...

Fingers are raw, ears are ringing, and I can NOT get enough of this amp's sound!!! Channel 1, is soooooooooo beautiful with a sweet chorus and a small tape echo on it. Channel 2? The money with its gain dimed, and a bit of chorus on the power chords. Channel 3? Forget about it - I have to go to bed tonight, not write a thesis on sound excellence... And Channel 4 - the often thought of 'red headed step child' to the remaining channel family - BRILLIANT hot, searing, fire breathing leads...

ANYTIME I think there's something out there that could potentially win over this amp, I just need a day like today to realize what a work of art it truly is.

THANK YOU PETER :rawk:
Gute Nacht lieber Freund...

You are lucky - I have the chance to play my Herbert once a week... but then

BIG words coming from ex-Mr. Herbert himself :D Ya, the V has got some magic to it - it can be a vicious, firebreathing freight train of force, or it can be this ethereal angel voice - and EVERYTHING in between. Interestingly enough yesterday, on some motivation from Reza, I spent a LOT of time on Channel 2 - now don't get me wrong, BTDT before - but I really wanted to experiment and man, it's up there in its tonal range and punch with 3, for sure. And then, Channel 4 - holy SHIT with the clean boost added, this is a pedal-free lead channel from hell (in a good way!!). Fingers are still sore today.

Although I can get a Herbert at a terrific price, and my curiosity is sometimes getting the best of me, days like yesterday just make me go "a different amp? meh...".

After owning them both........
ENJOYING them both................... :D
I like the FULLNESS of the VH4S over the Herbert.

Like Dave Mustaine said......"HIND SIGHT IS ALWAYS 20/20!"

Cant go wrong with either though..... ;)

I don't think Dave Mustaine even knows what that means. He's been in so many feuds it's just plain ridiculous. He's just got a very poor personality. He acts like he's god's gift to metal. I don't think he's ever learned anything from hindsight. You'd think after all the crap he's been through it'd add some character and he'd have learned a thing or two. Oh well.

If this is the amp you end up with after it's all said and done that says alot. As for me the vh4 rocks and I don't see it ever leaving me.

Nice analogy... As for Mustaine, I'm sorry - but he's always gotten under my skin. Furthermore, and yes, I can sense the flame war already starting, I think his singing is crap. Sounds like a prepubescent school boy with his nuts stuck in a door.

VH4S is THE bomb... Period

Thanks Cats!

I've owned just about everything and I still think the VH4 is the best amp I've ever heard. I have a few more I want to try (CCV, Marsha, maybe a couple others) but so far I like the VH4 best. Awesome amp.

I have damn near owned them all...........

The VH4 is where I am heading back to......

I agree 100% :)
The VH4S is the best amp I've ever played or owned.

Here we go...again.

I prefer strawberry and pineapple smoothies.

I finally got my Herbert back from Bruce Egnater and i hooked it up to the VH4 last night and was able to crank them both.

Peter, i think IF you could design an amp that produces both the frequencies that those 2 amps do, in 1 amp, with all the options everyone is always asking for, you would probably have something very very special there.

I was ok with the Herbert before. I'm liking my new vh4. but when you plug them in together, you get something different. more...huge sound.
when i mute one of them, it seems like the sound got empty now.

i would still like to try a VH4S, but I do wonder, how does it differ tonally to a regular VH4?

Well DUH!

It's called the "placebo affect."

How is having two amps playing in tandem versus one playing independent considered a "placebo" effect? The definition of placebo effect is:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Placebo
Albeit the ability to use the term 'placebo effect' goes far beyond its original medicinal context.

Nevertheless, as per the 2 amps in 1, I think Diezel would pretty well be out of business by creating an amp that's all things to all people -

As for the VH4S - which I have now, and have had the standard mono series too (I think I've owned 6 types of V's in the last few years), the 'S' is very flexible and the added benefit of stereo certainly assists in close mic recordings with decent true-pan effects. Secondly, the dynamics of the 50W per side, I find, are nicer than the 100W straight up mono. Secondly, and most pertinent, a muscician can run a W/D rig in one fell swoop with the 'S' model.

Cheers,
V.
