The wah wars!

VERY true Eric, I never had a problem wth my Crybaby 95Q and noise or bypass issues. Nice though because it had a built in volume boost.

Thanks Nick! I didn't realize they were THAT similar in build. I do have no noise with the Buddah and it did cut with the band but that was just bass, drums and guitar. I'll have to see with another guitarist!

From others on here it sounds like the Budda cuts live.

Maybe I'll buy a used Clyde Standard to compare to my Budda and then grab a used Crybaby Classic to compare.

I think I like the Budda best on this clip. I may send it for the modification. I found a guy who thickens the voice and raises the volume, plus with a switch so you get the stock sound as well!

I just know I didn't like my Wizard. SOunded like a trumpet, but I know that is part of the old Vox/Wah sound....ala...Clyde.

I am starting to think the Clyde Deluxe may be the best bet because sometimes I like that vintage tone or a smoother, cleaner wah and sometimes I want the growl and throatiness.

I think I am going to pick up a Classicto compare to my Budda, I may keep both! I thought about the Dimebag From Hell, but with something like that or the Fulltone with a zillion options, it becomes more than I need! I like to keep it simple. ;) I'd end up setting it and leaving it anyway.

I know Crybabys and my Crybaby 95QI was good from clean to metal and worked well with singles to humbuckers so I may get back to the baby! I sold mine because I thought the 95Q was a touch on the harsh side and ended up buying the Budda, but I agreee and there are sooo many pros using Crybabys for a reason.

Something about the way the Fulltone I don't like, as if it is dominating the tone and taking over.
Many of these companies say this wah works for all types of music or singles vs hums but I never had ANY problem with the Crybaby in that respect! Ever!

Bottom line if the Classic has a sweet Crybaby tone and has enough volume to cut a band, I may keep it along with my Budda! Funny there is a site that mods the CB and the Bud with a 30% volume increase but not surw they NEED it.

Anyone try the ZakkWah? I heard some demos and it sounds nice and thick, wide for clean to mean. I am just concerned if it has enough of a built in boost to get over the band when soloing. Alternatively I was thinking of having my Budda modded to add a switch. When the switch is on it has a gain, volume and thickness boost - then I can always switch it back to stock.

Problem is, I know many feel only the Crybaby wahs have the perfect filter effect, meaning licks or riffs sound good when played from the low to high end of the wah....no weird frequency things like with a lot of other wahs.

For me, I feel that the only wah's I've had problems with a lack of boost or volume, have been the original crybaby, and an original vox reissue.

Every other way I've tried that is kinda a modern/updated kinda wah (including the classic), I've never really had a problem with it not cutting.

Then again... whenever I go for solos, I always have annother channel that is boosted for volume too...

Fulltone Clyde Deluxe Wah here......

Six years and counting.

True bypass and a real plus with the three tone options and gain selections.

Excellent sweep curve for me.

I use the same channel for rhythm and lead so I just hit the boost in the loop for leads. When I need to use the wah, I don;t want to have to hit the boost and wah. The Fulltone Clyde Deluxe looks nice but I am scared by the filter comments by Nick. Nick, didn't you see that problem with the Fulltone bro?

I think the best bet is to just bite the bullet, buy one, and try it. Does musicians friend still have that 30 day return policy? That might not be a bad idea. We could talk till we're blue in the face about wah's all day long :D , but what it comes down to is: does the wah fit YOUR style and do YOUR ears like it, know what I mean?

I was wondering how long it was going to take for someone to finally reach this conclusion on this subject. ;)

No filter problems for me with the Clyde in any position and we play at decent clip too!

The three tone options really make it cut through the mix.

I agree! I am afraid of spending $130 modding my Budda only to sell it some day. I'd rather find the right stock wah. I am grabbing a Zakk or Fulltone Clyde Deluxe. I thought my Budda killed my Teese Wizard so we'll see about the Clyde Deluxe.

What about the Area 51 Wah. It fits in the dunlop or vox chassis, and sounds SWEETTTT.

I saw that one! And, don't they make their own wahs? I was cheking that one out! I was curious how it handles classic rock to modern heavies. The Fulltone Clyde Deluxe is on my radar. I hope to get one soon to try. It would be nice to be able to switch between a more classic Jimi wah to a modern 'wacked' wah. Ha.
