I'm getting divorced, and its almost over. I'll be getting a nice amount of money in the next few months, for the equity in my house, as my wife is buying me out. All very good things for everyone, no sympathy needed... thats just the situation. while i was married i had to let go of a lot of really nice guitars because she refused to work. Whenever we needed money, there went a guitar. so i'm thinking of treating myself to something super nice and comparable to something i used to have, that got away. I was always a big les paul guy, and in my flipping days, i got a hold of one of these:

i haven't seen another one since, and here one is. i sold mine for $2800 in in the mid 2000's to finance my wedding ring. I'd be willing to pay that asking price, i'm just trying to justify it because i've never spent that much on a guitar. thats a major purchase for me. the rest would buy myself a new place to live.

Les paul / guitar collector guys: what do you think of that and that price? i want it to be a keeper, but since these never come up, i'm not sure if this is too much. comparable to prs hollowbody II's, its pretty close. I'm confident about this era of gibson, so i'm expecting to like it. thoughts?

Man, sure is purdy. And good time for Gibsons, build-wise.
I don't know anything about the value or resale of it.
But if you're needing a devil on your shoulder, I'm happy to oblige. 😈
If it's something your really want, and you're likely to cherish it, I say go for it.
A while back I bought and returned a couple of Adam Jones Standards. I really wanted a Silverburst LP Custom to match my Silverburst SG, but the prices are insane. The AJs turned out to be dogs. I kept searching, and eventually found this:

Zero regrets. I won't be heartbroken to take a hit if I have to flip it some day. It's been a joy to play and I'm happy to have it. We get one ride on this planet. You gonna have that guitar with you for some of it?

Looks pretty cool to me. If thats what you want I say go ahead and get it. Enjoy your freedom!

i see some sell for like 3500 and then some for more than 5k, so i'm thinking i might try and haggle...worth a try.

I assume that one was a dealer-specific finish and with the nicer top I'd say the asking price isn't that bad, assuming it's in as good of a condition as the listing shows and all original. Doesn't hurt to try haggling a bit though. There's a similar darker purple one with a close asking-price in the sold listings on Reverb. I'm not an expert or anything, but with it being a 90's custom shop Gibson, and first-run year of the Bantams/Florentines, it's probably going to be a nice guitar overall. If you like that type of LP, go for it.

Sweet guitar! Would sound awesome through an SLO30! :ROFLMAO:

Not a fan of the green but enjoy your next chapter.

I prefer a blue or a trans black actually.

I think if you’re asking if the value will hold, I think that’s fairly safe. Can’t say to do it or not other than to say go with your gut. If you are having doubts, I’d say hold out until you find one that speaks to you. I usually find the more I search and research, the easier it is to pull the trigger on something because I feel I’ve done the due diligence and am getting what I want at a price I can do.

They made some nice guitars back in the mid/late 90’s. They had a LP Custom that was a heavily flamed Honeyburst that I was always liked. Just couldn’t afford it back then. Certainly can’t afford it now, if one shows up. Prices on LP Customs are stupid..😞

i love trans green guitars. i fully support the trans (finished) guitar community :giggle:
this is the one i had. this one was special ordered without f-holes. the one on ebay with f-holes has a way nicer top, and the f-holes kind of add another level of elegance (lack of better word) .

Unpopular Opinions:
*That's a helluva lot to spend on a guitar you haven't played.
*Trying to recapture things from the past rarely work out as planned.

I vote finding a new soulmate guitar that you can play first.

I went thru something similar in 2017. When everything was said and done, I paid off bills and saved up to get an electronic drumset. It was such an awesome feeling and great finding things that make you happy. I say get the guitar and everything else you want dude. Cool collectible!

I say if you want it, then get it.

I picked up this VERY polarizing Gibson about 3 years ago.

I bought it locally from a seller who had it since it was new and rarely got played over the years.

She made me a smoking deal I couldn’t pass up.

Most guitar players wouldn’t even give this guitar a second look, and even think it’s hideous.

I love the guitar and think it’s unique and cool looking.

Do it!!!!

Pretty obvious that will be a more amazing LP than anything that bullshit artist Tim Pierce ever got his greasy little booger hooks on.
