Unpopular Opinions:
*That's a helluva lot to spend on a guitar you haven't played.
*Trying to recapture things from the past rarely work out as planned.

I vote finding a new soulmate guitar that you can play first.
This.
Guitars are so personal, I'd have to buy from a source that I can either try first, or return if need be. Especially for that kind of coin.

I say if you want it, then get it.

I picked up this VERY polarizing Gibson about 3 years ago.

I bought it locally from a seller who had it since it was new and rarely got played over the years.

She made me a smoking deal I couldn’t pass up.

Most guitar players wouldn’t even give this guitar a second look, and even think it’s hideous.

I love the guitar and think it’s unique and cool looking.

Thats sweet especially the maple fretboard

I'm a Lester fanboy - owner of many - some true vintage - some custom - yada yada.

If ya want a proper Lester, it takes time, patience, test-driving and money. I've been at them for 20 years or so.

But one thing I've *never* contemplating was a Les Paul with f-holes. Now, ain't saying that's a bad thing or whatnot, to each their own. But before you spend a whack of cash on anything - take pause - know what it is you want in both function AND form - and then start your journey outwards.

Revenge purchasing never works out well. And impulse buys are at best 50/50.

But I wish you all the best and hell yeah, Lesters are Besters 😆

If your uncertainly about the purchase was strong enough to start a thread about it, I advise holding off until you find something that speaks "buy me immediately" to you.

I would hold off man. If it’s your dream guitar, don’t let me get in your way, but I think the boomer guitar collectibles thing will soon be a thing of the past. I don’t see many instruments going up in value all that much anymore aside from used prices of common gear.

Side note, my ex bought me out of our house when we got divorced too. I ended up getting a VHT Pittbull, Budda SD30 and new girlfriend to get me by. Divorce sucks but I would hate to think of my life now if it hadn’t happened

Jim,
For a while Gibson also made the Supreme with the F holes as well. They usually have really nice tops on most of them but I am not sure what they go for currently. Just kinda throwing out other options for price comparison. Your Green LP in that pic is a beauty! Good luck.

It won't hold value unless it's a vintage correct reissue of the burst era...

Beautiful guitar! I agree with the hollowbody's being niche, so not sure how well it would hold value. but pricewise with the way older LPs are these days it's prob not out of line. Does seem like prices are softening a little bit though so maybe watch it for a bit to see if you can get a better price on it?

he dropped the price 500 and i haven't even contacted him yet. I did start researching used lp custom prices. seems like the low end these days is like 3-3.5k, so for a super nice one like this, 4.5k doesn't seem crazy high to me. after covid, shit went haywire with the used prices on certain things. all les pauls are up a lot from 10 years ago. I'm going to wait until after the holidays to pull the trigger because i'm not risking having it shipped during peak season.

To give a bit of perspective on the price, three months ago, I bought in a LA shop a used mint unplayed M2M Les Paul Custom Axcess, that looks a lot like yours but trans-black flamed top instead of green and Axcess instead of Florentine. Split diamond headstock, real ebony board etc. I paid exactly $4K. I contacted Gibson to know the original new price and was told it was slightly north of $7.5K.

I had a 1994 40th Anniversary American Strat that I bought new, and it was nearly all I played until I sold it 15 years ago. I eventually regretted that, by which point I'd long since lost track of who I'd sold it to. Right now there's an identical one for sale, excellent condition, case, case candy, etc., and I've been wrestling with buying it, but I don't think I'm going to. It's not the guitar I gigged with all those years, it just looks like it. It'd be a different story if it was my old guitar.

Pretty funny that it's called the Les Paul Florentine but doesn't even have a florentine cutaway
