No he called me at 10pm and told me he was not shipping the guitar. He texted toward the end telling me to stop scamming yet I was the one who sent money. I don't know what kind of scam he is pulling but it ain't gonna work.

is there a way to track these PO checks?
if so, has he cached them?
is there any way to cancel it?

FWIW, I don't think you over-reacted; a deal is a deal and if he couldn't go through with it he either should have sent you the checks back immediately or put up with your, very reasonable, communication.

man, what an asshole, trying to somehow cover himself by texting that you are the scammer. too bad you don't live closer!!

Forgive me if I am wrong or didn't see this,

but is there any chance someone else cashed the postal money order? Can someone do that without ID?

I wouldn't think so, but is that even possible?

Suppose anything is possible. The only thing is someone called Frank to see if he was still selling the guitar and was told he was going to the house of blues tonight if he wanted to see it. Something is really askew.

No cashing them is very secure. Have to look them up to see if they are lost or stolen from a list. Then ID is required to cash it. No 3rd party or cannot be signed by by anyone but who it is made out to.
Best of luck on this. Go down to the post office and report these as stolen. You should have a copy of it or portion of it with the Money order Number on it.

How did you find out that this guitar was for sale in the first place?

Frank was selling the axe online. He says in his texts that he does this all the time. (selling guitars online)

Sorry dude. I'm at least glad to see that Postal Money Orders have some type of mechanism to help when a deal goes south.

I recently sent a cashier's check for a guitar across the country from me, and I'm so glad that the guy wasn't a scammer. I got the cashier's check from my bank, and they said that if something went wrong, that I could cancel payment of the cashier's check and get the money back. I assume then that the banks (my bank and the bank that received the deposit) would have to quarrel with each other and that I'd at some point have to prove up that I'd been scammed by the other bank's customer, but it sounded better than simply sending cash to a stranger and hoping for the best.

I've been scammed about 5 different times over the years, and only one got away with it. I've actually been accused of scamming as well, but that was because the accuser was a spineless liar, rather than it having anything to do with a miscommunication (not sure if we're missing details here, since this Frank character called you a scammer). There are almost always ways to track these people down and make it right, whether they've stole from you or wrongly accused you of something in a public manner. When somebody has committed a crime against you, and you can prove it, the law will always be in your favor. A clear case can not be beat by the offender. Call the bank, for starters, and see what else you can find on this guy without going to illegal measures.

Yeah but how was he advertising it? Was it up on a forum? Was it a Craigslist ad?

Yes! I spoke with him and he is shipping it. I don't have it yet but will update when it arrives. Thank you for the support. Yes it was listed on CL I use a search page a'huntr and it searches all the different areas. There is another one called Jaxed that use to work better, but CL sued them.

Great news! I'm interested to know why he called u a scammer, then ends up shipping it, or so he says? We may never know...

It has shipped and I have a tracking number. I consider it a done deal. He took it to a shop and shipped it today.

awesome! looks like your threats paid off man!! he probably would have tried to take your cash if you didn't get the police involved.
