this old Mark IIB sounds as bad ass as any III or IV I've ever heard what am I missing?

There's anomalies everywhere...like a bad sounding vintage Marshall....a Mk III that sounds just as good as a C+....and a Mark of any kind that sounds great without a GEQ.
But I haven't played any.
I guess I might try one IF I could return it. Then I'd be protected from that nasty honk. I'd only have to hear it once. Lol
That vid is more or less how I remember the non-EQ IIC+’s I’ve had or tried sounding too. Not as metal or aggressive sounding, but the 3D and liquid quality is there and I’ve not played any mark iii yet as good as a c+ either, but the No stripes got closest IME. Other than the 2 below serial 50 Rev C’s I’ve played, Mesa/Boogie’s IME have been really consistent as long as the specs are roughly the same. I haven’t tried a bad vintage Marshall yet either except a friend’s that needed servicing

Maybe I’m lucky (or unlucky lol), but I haven’t tried any amps I’d call anomalies yet, but I have had a bunch of vintage amps sound way better after my tech serviced them. Some of them I thought I was gonna sell until he worked on them
