Nice looking guitar. I too dig purple, although i don't own one....i wouldn't kick it out of bed (so to speak).

Crazy, though, that you bought that axe, and didn't' talk with the store manager first to confirm the color, etc... crazy son.

Hope you gel with it!

My wife said the same thing about calling the store first before buying. :D

I didn't even know what year the guitar was. The description simply said: "Used Gibson Les Paul Standard Quilt Top" and there was one shitty picture. However, in my defense, it was late on a Sunday night when I was scrolling the used section and I was high as a kite and drunk as fuck. Other times I've waited to talk to someone from the store about a used item and missed out. Besides, GC has a pretty good return policy.

^ FIXED ;)

That looks bad-ass, I would totally keep it. I'll likely take dibs #2 if DeathbyUber changes their mind

I just got this and it's definitely translucent black. Plays amazing.

I would keep that fucker and start playing Prince covers. Seriously, that's a good looking guitar, if the price was acceptable then I'd keep it.

Yeah totally. It's awesome

That is transparent black. Depending on the cut of maple and depth of the black transparent black can look purple-ish depending on the guitar and lighting. As somebody pointed out not uncommon at all. Nice top on that one too.

Reminds me of all the guys talking about Broderick's trans-purple Ibanez LACS RGA which was also in fact transparent black.

I can see why you would buy it without calling about it. GC's returns policy is pretty good, and easy to use/abuse   Seems like a lot of people take advantage. It was worth buying and giving it a try.

I think it looks great. I don't think it's actually purple though. I've seen some of those purple LP Standards, and yours looks similar, but more like Transparent Black that has faded to me. With the right aging and light source, trans-black becomes purple.

If you dig it, keep it! It can be hard to find the "perfect" LP, so if it speaks to you, I wouldn't let go of it.

I like some of the new colors Gibson has been doing for the past few years. Placid Purple (below) is cool, I dig their Faded Blue that looks similar to PRS's Faded Blue Jean, and the classic but relatively rare Pelham Blue.

Happy NGD

  I have made some questionable purchases in that state and woke up the next morning wondering what the fuck was I thinking. This "mistake" seems like it might have a happy ending.

If you are set on trans black long term send it back. I personally am not a fan of purple guitars but that one actually looks great. I second the send it to Kage notion tho :D

I'm trying to convince myself that you're right, but I'm 99.9% sure it's purple. All signs and specs point to a 2011 model in "Regal Purple Quilt". I sent the serial number off to Gibson for confirmation.

After a quick google and looking at images it could be either one

You could call Gibson and give them the serial number. I'm curious as to what the official color is. It really could be either

That looks very similar to a lot of "transblack" Gibsons I've seen. They seem to either come out a purple-ish or brown-ish shade. Let me guess, it has a black back and neck, right? If you haven't yet, maybe call Gibson and have them tell you for sure what color that guitar is based on the serial number.

As long as you like it, I'd hang onto it if it plays well and you got it at a decent price.

My Pelham Blue LPC looks purple when photos are taken with thr flash on. I suppose I'm not part of the purple club...

No flash...

For those keeping score at home, I got a return email from Gibson today with the specs:

2011 Les Paul Standard Quilt Regal Purple
AAA Quilt Maple Top
Mahogany back
Coracoa Fingerboard on mahogany neck
60’s profile neck
Grover Keystone Locking Tuners
Burstbucker 1 Rhythm Pickup
Burstbucker 2 Lead Pickup
Mother of Pearl peghead face inlay

Guitar looks cool to me, but def not black! If black is what you want, send it back,, how do you like it would be the main question??
